Can anyone advise me what I need to go with the Algodrone. I'm thinking a filter and maybe reverb/delay/multi-effects. But do I need an envelope or a VCA ?

An envelope/VCA makes sense if you want to get volume control. Basically, the ALGODRONE can be seen as an oscillator, with a continuous sound output. LFO / Envelope can be nice also for modulation of parameters!

Treat the Algodrone like a "special" VCO in a "synth voice", so with VCF-VCA-ENV-LFO.

Haven't got mine bought yet, but one thing I plan for it is to use it for FM. No, not the carrier, the MODULATOR. Should be interesting...

I'd definitely recommend at least a couple of LFOs as a lot of its parameters are CV controllable (which is hugely satisfying) - also worth mentioning is that it's cycle output makes for a really interesting (and unexpected) clock source for any sequencers you have.

I'm totally torn. Can't make up my mind which of 3 modules to go for. Either Solina. Wavetables or Algodrone. And of course all the necessary accompanying sub-modules to go with em. I like the Algodrone alot. But I need to go fast. Not sure it could keep up with Topograph? If it can deliver all that random goodness at a fast pace. It could be a modular breakcore dream!

Buy the 3 ! Algodrone, Solina and Wavetables are on my order. All of which are sound sources that take the AE Modular into very interesting sonic territories In the case of the Algodrone, somewhat unique as well.

Alas I can only afford one big module (and ancillary modules) at a time. So I gotta choose.

I see advantages and dis-advantages for all 3. The Solina I've kind of got covered as I have a Yamaha TX81Z for pads and a keystep. The Algodrone is 8 bits though. I've had 8 bit gear in the past and it's hard to find a place for it in the mix . It can be very harsh sounding. I don't mind that with the 8 bit Drumkit 010 because I mainly just use it for hihats. So Wavetables is a definite preference.

You've decided Yes but should I sacrifice fidelity for form, in pursuit of art. i really like the anarchy of the Algodrone.. i don't hear Robert using one live. And he's like a gold standard for AEM. tbh It's really hard deciding on the next big module

Yeah, all depends on the kind of music you want to make for me Solina was first. Maybe Wavetables next mostly for the pitch stability. Probably won't go Algodrone, but different people make different patches that need different sounds. This little AE Modular is getting some deep modules.

A comfy chair, because you'll be at it for a while. That module is great. robertlanger I have Eurorack friends that would pay through the nose for an ALGODRONE, if you ever decide to sell your unique designs in Eurorack format.
