Hi all! Received today from Noisebug both SR1 and SR2 cases and bought 2 Seq16 modules. Love it all!! But one thing is weird.... Do the cases need to be coupled with the cable connector together to be able to patch between each other? If I take an LFO (or any module) from SR1 and try to use it to control something it either doesn't work or wigs out.
Thanks for any insight!!

Hi! If the cases use separate power supplies, then you need to establish a common ground. You can use a 3.5mm audio cable and connect both MASTER I/O modules via the audio or ctrl sockets. This should connect the grounds. EDIT: you can also connect the cases with the cable connector on the front/rear facing sides. Then you’d also just require one power supply and MASTER I/O module for both cases.

Hello and welcome to the AE-Team ;-) As you are most likely running both racks from different power supplies via their individual Master modules, you are having a grounding issue. You need to establish a common electrical ground between both racks to cross patch. There are 3 ways to do this: 1. just plug a 3.5mm audio cable between the two Master modules. The TRS or TRRS connection will provide a common ground and then you can patch other cables between the two cases. 2. You can use a splitter cable to connect both Master modules to a single power supply. That way they share a common ground. 3. You can order the rack connection kit which will come not only with the screws to connect the two cases together, but also a small bus cable that you can use to run power and midi from one case to the other. You can then remove one master module which gives you more room for other modules. www.tangiblewaves.com/store/p102/AE_modular_case_hinge_kit_Type_1.html

Hey thanks a lot for the input!! Works like a charm now. Didn't even cross my mind to do that and I've been using modulars for ages hahahahaha.. These systems are fantastic. The aesthetic is really cool and I've read a lot of ppl talk down on the patch wires but I think they rule.

Usually in Eurorack you don't have that problem even patching between differently powered racks as the patch cables have a ground wire in them. AE Modular is more like Serge or Buchla with their Banana patch leads, where you only have the signal, but no ground.

Also, don't forget that that ground plane has to be established for ANY device patched to the AE. When using 3.5mm cables, this is easy enough, since these ground at their 4I/O connections. But if you're using another pinwire device such as some of Bastl's gear, certain Koma Field Kit functions, Folktek's pinwire devices, etc, you MUST run a second connection from a GND on the AE to a similar ground reference on the other device. As mentioned, this is pretty much identical to how you have to deal with grounding on banana jack synths such as the Serge, Kilpatrick Phenol, etc.

Thank you Admin the info and to Luiga for that also. I have 2 of the Anyware Instruments Minisizers and initially was gonna use the AE with it but the AE is just so personable I find myself just keeping it contained unto itself.
It's really wild. I've owned so much 5U stuff and eurorack and this format for some reason just appeals to me way more. I think its some kind of crazy nostalgia trip but its also the sound. Such a huge sound from such a small VCO!
I'd love to see an EMS Putney/Synthi filter and EML 100 filter.
