I think a useful thread here would be a place to talk about potential changes and new rack layouts. The discord channel has been great for asking small questions and I want to see the forums also be able to answer small questions in a format that is archived for new folks to see.
My intention: Since I'm starting this thread, I am going to go first. I do not have any AE system or any modular synth. I've found this system because of Tuesday Night Machine's youtube channel. I feel pretty comfortable on the synth voices front (for now, but I know I will want to expand), but I feel that my drum machines are lacking. I have a Volca Beats, Akai Rhythm Wolf, and my Synthstrom Deluge. Combining these units I'm able to get great sounds, but I think its more in the sequencing of the drums. I would like something that offers more generative potential and the Topograf module an obvious answer. Plus I like lo-fi drum sounds, so jumping into the AE format I think a fun way to get into AE in a confined and relatively inexpensive manner. Basically I want a drum machine that feels a little more human and opportunities to groove against it (I'm mainly a bass player).
The rack: Everything is housed in a 1-Row 12x1 Narrow Case. I was almost thinking of going with the even smaller 8U Eurorack frame, but I think the proper case is a better choice since I don't have any Eurorack cases anyways.
I had the opportunity to run this rack by the folks in the Discord channel (which I recommend joining), but I think having a place in the forums to talk about rack ideas would be valuable. So comment on ideas how I might use this rack, post other racks that you're thinking of, or just use this as a way to think of different ordering of stuff! I've already placed my order with the Tangible Waves team, but module order is up in the air!

- POWER - I wanted to keep this small and straight to the point. I decided that I don't need midi for this and opted for the smaller power source as opposed to the MASTER.
- 4ATTMIX - I was torn between this versus the MIXER 4-4, but I think it might just have more flexibility if I want to route stuff through the rack at some point.
- 4 I/O - My Synthstrom Deluge has 4 gate outputs and 2 CV outputs, so I can trigger drums from my Deluge and bypass the Topograf if need be. Having the smaller POWER and 4 I/O was one of the reasons to sidestep the larger MASTER module.
- TOPOGRAF - This is probably what I'm mostly excited about. Its the brains in sequencing the drum sounds.
- MM-DIV - I'm thinking this will be one of the things that will help add more spice to everything. I don't quite know how I will want to use it, but that's part of exploration.
- OR2x4 - Another spice-y module. I think it might mix rhythms up in an interesting way. To me, this and the MM-DIV is what modular format really has to offer and I don't know how these modules will shine (yet).
- KICK - Because obviously.
- DRUMKIT 010 - Another obvious source of drum sounds that are ready for routing.
- GRAINS - I view this module as a wildcard. Thinking about this setup, I originally was thinking of how I might be able to make bytebeats into an LFO. Then I was thinking of maybe it could be an 8-bit lo-fi acid box when paired with the drums. I don't even know! It would have to be sequenced by my Deluge for any pitched things. I think for a rack this small, having a module that can be reprogrammed based on need, would be awesome.
- FILTER (Wasp type) - I originally wanted to go with the MS-20 style filter, but I think I would miss a high-pass filter too much, so I wanted something that can get a little raunchy, but has the option for high pass and low pass.
- 2LFO - Modulation is what this whole thing is about, right? I'm kind of worried about not having enough LFO's and that's why I was thinking of initially trying to set up the GRAINS into that role as well.
