received the beatstep pro today and can't wait to get it running with the AE in a bit:) but just a quick question before I start this journey: I dont own the 4 I/O module with secured ins and outs yet so am quite nervous about connected them since i read on the beatstep pro: "CV/GATE outputs (1 volt per octave CV, 10 volt gates)" - www.arturia.com/beatstep-pro/detailsand the AE can get damaged from more than 5 Volts. Does this mean I shouldn't connect the gate outputs at all till i get a 4 I/O module some time? (I do own the Master module as part of the starter rack 2). In this case I guess i can use the midi-out from the beatstep instead until then? Hope someone can shed some light on this:) stay safe.

As far as my knowledge goes (don't have beatstep pro) You may use Master Module's Inputs/outputs the same way as with the 4I/O module.

I use the midi out on my beatstep pro into the Master module, so it gives the clock and also note /modulation info. The drum channel can be used to trigger the modules, and the other synth channel can provide modulation CV/ triggers if you need more. You have one spare I/O on the master module you can use to bring a CV/Trigger in, (the other is needed for audio out unless you are just using headphones via the headphone amp module). It is possible to direct connect between an AE module and external gear but I bought a 4 I/O so I didn't have to worry about accidentally going over +5 Volts and could just use standard 3.5mm jack cables to/from the AE and external gear I use with it.

Sorry, meant to say I believe you can set the BSP's cv/gate outputs to different voltages etc. Been a while since I fiddled with mine but you connect it to the PC like you are updating the firmware, and can set your parameters for the basic set up. I know I was able to set mine to produce a Korg S trigger but can't remember what else you could do.

Hi, When I had the Beatstep Pro I had it connected both via MIDI and via CV/Gate for driving two voices in my system. First up, the I/O inputs on the master module are protected from higher voltages so putting through a 10V signal would just cap it at 5V. Second, you can configure the BSP to send 0-5V via the Arturia Midi Control Center which you can download here www.arturia.com/support/downloads&manualsBTW this is the same as for Arturia’s Keystep. Good luck and happy patching!
