Hello everyone,
new member and AE-owner to be here, just ordered my first (custom) rack last week, eagerly awaiting the ting.
Anyhow, one of the major selling points for me was the ability to power the AE from eg. that Harley Benton Power Bank and just take it outside.
Now, what do you folks suppose is your go-to sequencer that can be powered by 5V USB/9V/int. Battery
and doesn't cost half a fortune (eg. Keystep Pro)?
Been eyeing at the Beatstep Pro but honestly the song mode looks pretty rudamentary to me.. I'd love the ability to create fully-fledged pieces, not just 16-step beep-boop sequences.
Looking to pair it with a Volca sample and an FX unit that understands MIDI CC; and also for indoor/studio use with a DX 7 and ableton live.
Hope I'm not calling for an unobtainium piece of gear.
TL;DR Name a portable, affordable and not totally shite sequencer
Peace and thanks in advance

Hey If you have an iPad there are lots of apps you could use. Simply add a USB MIDI cable and a Camera Connection Kit. If you add an Audio & MIDI interface you can also immediately record everything onto the tablet. My go-to app is Cubasis. I’m also a big fan of the MPC 500 which has a powerful MIDI sequencer with a song mode and which can also sample your AE Modular audio. It’s very cheap nowadays and runs on batteries or the 9V power bank. Keep in mind though that the AE Modular only has a monophonic MIDI-CV interface built in, so you probably want a multitrack audio recording solution too. Again, the iPad rocks for this. If you want more CV outputs directly from your MIDI sequencer, I can recommend the affordable CV.OCD, which also runs on 9V.

I use my Synthstrom Deluge to sequence via Midi and it's dedicated CV/Gate outputs and I feed dual-mono or stereo output from the AEM back into it to record. All running on battery power, so completely portable.

I have 4 synths (two of them AE Modulars) connected to a MIDI thru box and the Deluge can sequence them all! A way back there was a good thread here on the forum where we discussed sequencers, maybe check it out for other ideas and options: forum.aemodular.com/thread/443/sq-1-beatstep-pro

Hello,
I use the OP-Z with the OP-Lab module. Works perfectly. Midi, CV and gate are possible.
The sequencer of the OP-Z is very good, but you have to learn something.
If you combine the whole thing with a mixer you can use the drums of the OP-Z.
Small, portable, works!

MPC 500 seems dope, actually just checked out one of your older vids on that lil box..kleinanzeigen has it for 300€ sharp..might even consider selling off my volca sample in that case. Also had a glimpse at the Noodlebox, Deluge and OP-Z, they all seem very nice (esp. the Deluge) but are honestly a bit out of my price range..thank you though!!!
huh, did not come across that one via search, I'll swing over there, thanks
The MPC (and maybe a midi->cv/gate box) seems like the most legit option as of now.
I still got some time till my next paycheck and a RaspberryPi 3+ collecting dust whilst in home office,
might end up having a crack at undusting my rusty coding skills and consequentially (hah) whipping up something of my own..who knows.
Again, thank you guys!

Let us know what sequencer you pick, I would advise but the ones I use are not portable...

Just looked up the Deluge as I'd never heard of it, if something like this is of interest the Novation Circuit would be worth a look.
