hi! I use Ableton and a Focusrite 2i4. Unfortunately, there's steady static noise (which is the lesser problem) in the background and whenever a note is being played I get quite intense, rhythmic clippings. I don't think it comes from the DAW, as nothing clips or overdrives.
Does anyone have similar problems using a similar setup? Any suggestions what might help in the DAW settings or with the modular?
thx in advance!

What do you use to output the modular ?

Sounds like you might be using the wrong cables. Are you connecting the AE Modular to your sound card’s mono input(s) with regular TS mono jack cables?

from the Audio 1 I/O into the Focusrite 6.3 jack input.

That should be fine though, as long as the sound card input expects a mono signal too. This hum can happen when there is a stereo cable involved with mono connections or vice versa.
Have you tried a different output and input and a different cable?

I’ll buy a new mono TS cable and let you know if that fixes the problem. Maybe mine is really stereo or it’s just broken. Thank you!

Have you checked all of your input settings / computer settings? The signal sounds too hot. Another thing to check is that you're using an line in jack rather than a microphone jack. I don't know if it matters a whole lot these days on different digital equipment, but I do remember on older equipment that the microphone jack is amplified, and your signal is already amplified, which would easily lead to clipping.

Yeah, that's a connection issue, sounds like. The steady static sounds as if there's a poor connection at some point in the signal path from the AE to the 2i4. You'd _think_ it was clipping, but if the metering indicates no overloading, that trashes that theory.
Also, where in the AE are you getting that output signal from? You may be overdriving something internally; remember, the AE doesn't behave nicely over +5V.

If it’s stereo then it’s a TRS cable and has three contact areas on the jack (tip, ring, sleeve). Maybe post a picture of the cable’s jacks and the AEM -> audio interface connection if you get a chance and we can have a look.

Yeah, I'm not sure which settings are required. These are my current audio settings:

Yes, that's what I meant - no clipping in the DAW, but maybe within the AE. I don't think I override sth internally, the "clipping" also comes with a basic patch (osc->filter) without boosting the amplitude anyhow. Here a picture of the routing:

That’s a TRS stereo cable. It has three golden contact areas on the jack (tip, ring, sleeve). You might need a proper TS mono cable with just two contact areas on the jack then.

Already on its way. Thank you all very much!

I'm not a settings expert myself But I know your computer itself has input levels, maybe check those as well.
One way of bug testing is to take input from something else, like say a phone, and see what that sounds like. Raise and lower the volume on your phone as you test. See if you can reproduce what the AEM is doing. If you can, it's likely your settings. If you can't it may be the cable, or something else on the AEM side

most likely it's due to your stereo cable. Had the same issue for quite some time until i realised stereo to mono cable is a wrong way. Since switched to mono-mono - all works well.
