hi,
I have a one rack AE from the kickstarter campaign and 2 unit are free. I think to leave one free for a future connection with a second row and use the other one. As I'm not expert in electronics I need to know if and how is difficult to mount a module.
Thanks.

Hi Andrea,
It's not difficult...: Loose the two screws at the bottom of the case holding the module Remove the blank panel Pull up carefully the connector at buscable; the folded pattern of the cable gives some room for this Plug in the module connector Set the module back into the case (can be a bit tricky sometimes to get the fold pattern back into place; it might help to unscrew (but not unplug) the module to the right). Fix the module with the two screws at the bottom. It's helpful to have the screws in place before mounting so the end of the thread is visible inside the case - this helps to set the hex spacers on top of the threads and "grip" the thread.
I hope this is helpful; we should have a video for this procedure :-))

I'd like to have a tip: I can't decide what module buy. I was thinking to get the new 2Osc so I'll have more and different "sound" to start with, but maybe other modules could be better to enrich the sound and the patches?

As robertlanger says, it's very easy and you should'nt worry about adding new moduels to your rack.
For the new moduels you wish to get, it all depend on what kind of modules you already have and what sort of sound you wish to do/have.

Andrea Hi andrea70, it's really hard to advise you on this without knowing what you would like to achieve sound wise. For instance you could add a 2ENV module which would give you more modulation options. Or you could add the Spring Reverb to add a nice reverb to your kit. A good way for you to try things out could be to model your current system here grid.aemodular.com/ and then drop in a few different modules to see whether you think they would fit visually. I know that this always helps me. However if you plan to extend anyway ... why not invest in a two row case instead of getting the rack link. The new cases offer much better extensibility than the old ones and a two row standard case costs as much as the racklink module.

hi careck, thanks. I've think about the two row standard case and I'm a little scared about dismonting and replacing all the modules... I'll take a look at the grid.

to dismount a moduel all you have to do is basicly unscrew and pull out a ribon cable, nothing more. Couldn't be easier

Hi andrea70, I'll do a video on how to do this over the weekend. I wanted to do this for a long time anyway. It is simple enough, but I understand that it can look a bit daunting at first.

hi,
thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna start adding one module in my actual rack so I'll see how things go. I understand by yours explanations that it's not so difficult, but doing it for all the modules make me scared I'll find myself with the AE not working...

The only wrong thing you could do is plugging in the module the wrong way around which is more or less impossible as the cable and connectors are all on the bottom side. It's really easy to do.

I understand by yours explanations that it's not so difficult, but doing it for all the modules make me scared I'll find myself with the AE not working... I was nervous the first time I dismantled mine (to rearrange for new modules), but it is really easy - if you use an electric screwdriver, make sure the torque setting is low, or hold it gently so it flips out of the screw rather than keeps going through the back panel of the case! (guess what I nearly did the first time...). It is also worth plugging all the modules into the power/bus lead and them screwing them into the case, the last one or 2 can get tricky otherwise. What you want to avoid is leaving the last module in the middle of the case still needing to be plugged in - I had to partly undo the 2 modules either side so I could attach it properly. The very first module I tried to take out, I unscrewed the front panel - you don't need to do that - it's all attached form the black screws on the back. :-)

I've buied the SV filter and mounted on my rack. It's really an easy things to do :-) I see that the patch point are better quality!

Ordered and received a few extra modules for my AE modular one of them appears to be impossible to mount on the underside (faulty or damaged thread) was hoping the ones that fill the unused spaces would help but they are of a different length any suggestions?

Have you tried different screws? Also, can you put the screw into the mounting rod when not in the case. If you can, something is not lining up properly, so you probably need to loosen the adjacent modules so you can put the new one in correctly. If you can't get the screw in the mounting rod at all, that's obviously the problem, I'm sure Robert would post you out a new 1 or 2, if you ask!

Thanks for your feedback Pol No I also tried removing the module and gently lining up with thumb and finger (still won't line up) only the opposite end is ok. Guess I'll get onto Robert!

hi everybody,
I've decided to go for a 16x2 row and add some modules. I have a couple of questions: - the master module I'm actually using in the single row is enough for the 2 row (I think the answer must be "yes", but I'm not sure…)? - do I need to buy two bus cable?
Thanks.

Hi andrea70, are you planning to extend your single row system with a two row and do you want to run both cases together? In that case you would also need the connection kit (but only if the two cases are the same width). If you buy an empty two row case you also need to buy 2 bus cables one for each row. And yes, one master module can power even up to 4 rows easily.

I want to buy an empty two row case; can I use the bus cable of the single row that I have (is the one row from KS)? Are the bus cable difficult to Mount?
Thanks,
Andrea

As long as the bus ribbon is the right length, yep, it'll work fine; fyi, you can use a longer ribbon for a shorter row, but not so easily the other way around. As for mounting, they're not really different from something like a Tiptop uZeus: just connect the ribbon's end to the proper multipin connector on either the MASTER or POWER modules and string it out in the case row for use. Easy!

thanks, I've never seen a uZeus, but I'm confident with the easy DIY AE format. For the bus, as I've one to dismount from mine actually rack (16 modules wide), the other ribbon to buy is the "AE modular Bus Cable STANDARD " that goes with the "AE modular case 2-Row 16x2 STANDARD", right?
Thanks again.
