NightMachines, thetechnobear, and 6 more like this

Today 12 months ago on the 24th of July 2018 Robert and I officially opened this forum to the world and I want to take a few minutes to reflect on what it has achieved and to thank everyone who has taken part of this exciting journey.
First, a bit of history ...
When I approached Robert in June 2018 about the state of social media activity around his revolutionary new system there were only very few mentions of the system “out there”. Notably there was some coverage of the Kickstarter campaign of 2017 and a few videos on YouTube mainly from thetechnobear (YouTube), NightMachines (YouTube) and analogowadusza (YouTube).
I felt that this new modular synthesizer format deserved much more exposure and that, since it looked perfect for the DIY community, that we needed … well … a community! So I asked Robert what he thought about starting an online forum. We discussed a few options, at first whether to host a sub forum on one of the established ones, eg. Muffwiggler, Lines or KVR, but I thought that this community would become something more and that we could sustain a forum of our own. We then involved Felix NightMachines for some brainstorming and he came up with the idea of planning regular posts to the forum as a means to “keep it alive” during times of low posts. Those posts turned into the Content Spotlights, the “monthly” blog posts and later the Patch Challenges. I also approached Mark thetechnobear to help out with “seeding” some content to the forum, as I have seen him do it for the Axoloti and Organelle forums and he jumped straight in and become the top content provider for a very long time (I will get into statistics later).
So where are we now one year later?
Nowadays there is at least one video on YouTube or one Soundcloud or other audio file uploaded EVERY SINGLE DAY!
(just let that sink in for a while)
The forum now has 210 members with over 50 regulars checking in at least once a day. Every day there will be at least one new discussion thread started and more than 7 posts written! And new members are signing up almost every other day.
But not just the numbers get me excited, but the atmosphere here in the forum. Everyone is helpful, supportive and enthusiastic especially towards newcomers. Creative ideas are freely shared and problems discussed constructively. For me this is all that I had dreamt of and much more! Thank you all for making this such a great place online far away from fake news, trolls and the hatred that exists in so many other (un-)social media channels!
Praises and thank-yous ...
I wanted to list some of my personal highlights, but decided against it as I would have to list almost every single post of this forum to do it justice!
However a special thanks should go to everyone who has posted their performances - you are the bravest people and are the true source of inspiration of many others that come to the AE modular system after you!
Every post here is valuable and welcome but a special thanks should go to the top posters who are helping new comers with their questions, post thoughtful ideas and overall provide the framework of this community: thetechnobear, NightMachines, spacedog, arti, pol, moruial, bahm, ben, 101 and rockysmalls.
And one super special thanks to Gaëtan who has single handedly developed the awesome AE Modular Grid, the best planning tool for AE Modular ... since Modulargrid couldn't be bothered (yet).
So I have probably forgotten some of you who deserve praise, but you know who you are and all of this couldn't work without you!
On to something completely different ... An Album!
To celebrate this special day I also want to announce that I am now officially planning to collect material for a collaboration album on Bandcamp with predominantly AE Modular sounds and compositions. Everyone will be invited to submit one track and I will ask the forum community to select the 10 of the submitted tracks for the first album and maybe we get lucky and have enough to even put out a second album!
Thank you all again and please let me know your thoughts on what you want from the forum or how it could be improved,
- Carsten
