Could you tell us a bit more about the synths? How’s the NS1 for example? I never used one, but as a patch wire synth fan, I obviously had it in an online shopping cart at least once

I'd say definitely get yourself the ns1. Although the AEM has all the modules it's a lot smaller. There is an arduino section I haven't used this myself but there's some pretty cool code people have done for it that they have shared on the sound machines forum. As I mentioned you have all the same modules in the AEM but the 'modules' on the ns1 have some quirks like the mixers can be used as amps simply by putting a cv signal in with the audio signal and the sum and sub section can also be used as an amp so in total you have 6 amps! The envelope is very nice having a loop option. Can get very complex with this little guy if you think outside of the box using each module. Never put a 9v in by mistake though! I did this and I now get a horrible high pitch oscillation out of the headphones so I have to take it out by the patchwire now not to get that.

On the Soundmachines website they sell the "Experimenter's Kit" and at the bottom of the product page they link to a PDF which contains a few interesting circuits to try out. I'm sure these would work by themselves and could also be connected to AEM! www.sound-machines.it/product/ns1-experiment-kit/

Cool! How high/tall is the NS1? It seems like one could mount it inside an empty row of an AEM case and then power it from the AEM’s 5V too

ive had this in my shopping cart quite a few times too so that going to fit in a row, and going to take about 10U... as you say, be interesting to hear about height, if peejayy could measure. looking at the pots, headers - it looks like it would fit in - and wouldn't matter too much, as I cannot see myself adding faceplate too it. I think, id just wire up the power permanently and secure it via the bottom stand-offs in the AE case. that said, it will take up the majoring of one row. have to say though, pretty tempting … its good to see they seem to have updated the experimenters kit, im pretty sure last time I looked (quite a while back I admit), they were very vague about it, or its content. (thought notice its out of stock at the moment) also the NS1Nanobridge is interesting, this is 14 CV, and could be used with the AEM too. (basically its just patchwire -> 3.5mm with a voltage protection afaik) hmm, tempting

Very tempting indeed! "Losing" 10U doesn't seem too bad as AEM case space is cheap. One could even almost mount the AEM's spring reverb tank next to the NS1 in the same row.

yeah, I need a new rack anyway... Ive just been waiting for Racklink to be released, so perhaps rather than a single, I'll need a double after all - and then somehow find the space for it ( a single, would have nicely mounted above it , like Malibu does )

I've got an order in for a second two-row rack as soon as the Racklink is available too I want to build some kind of contraption then, that allows me to fold the cases together for transport and also prop them up on a table.

That's pretty awesome I was hoping that we'd get such a portable/foldable case from Tangible Waves at some point. In the meantime I'll try to get a DIY solution going

There's no hight to the ns1 at all really it's essentially just a circuit board. The red case is just folded metal held by 4 plastic pegs and 4 rubber rings.
