Hi, I've been looking for a way to reproduce the space-echo effect of my Korg Monotron Delay, with less noise floor. It's basically a PT2399 delay chip with the feedback loop running through an MS-20-style resonant lopass filter. And there's a LFO, but you can't use it on the filter, which is one thing i'd like to change. But mostly the Monotron Delay runs off just two AAA batteries and it seems to introduce tons and tons of noise. I sort of hope that a similar circuit at 5v would have less noise. Am I fooling myself there? Anyway I made this rack on modulargrid: modulargrid.net/t/racks/view/2565353This would be just an effects unit for processing line-level sound, not really for synthesizing anything yet. I think this would be what I need? Maybe the attenuator module isn't necessary? Line signals would go in through the follower module, come out through the power module. I wonder if anybody here can tell me a better way to do it, or if I'm missing something. (I don't know if the "classic sound" of the PT2399 is so amazing to me, something digital might be fine there & have less noise, I just don't know what the options are.) Thanks for yr advice! -mykle-

Hey!
This looks pretty neat. Don't have a monotron myself to compare sounds. Delay-wise the only real Alternative in AE is the Multi FX. It's a lot more versatile than the classic delay module with a lot of different digital fx, some of which are delays or delay+Reverb. I still like the original, more Lo-fi pt2399 delay better. Something about that wonky gritty sound that I really like. But that's super personal of course!
I'd say something with an attenuator is a must to have fun tuning the amount of lfo effect on the other fx. Modulators looks fun in this setup, good choice imo (you can patch the envelope so it loops and you get An extra 'lfo' this way). VCA can be very useful to put the lfo/looped env through to let them interact with eachother.
Don't know if you really need an envelope follower? You want to make the delay/filter follow the volume of your sound? Or maybe using it with guitar? Might be more fun to switch it with another Modulators, or maybe a second filter to switch up the sound sometimes?
Anyways, looks like great fun, would be curious to hear the results!

The envelope follower is a great choice but you don't need it, you can just use one of the power's I/O to get the signal in. Otherwise I think it's fine. You can manage the feedback loop yourself with the mixer (which I often do) and the modulators module gives you even more opportunities to have fun.

I personally would add a 2nd lo fi delay, covered for stereo then but also gives you "multi-tap" options. I like have one on the Snare for instance, and a different delay on the hihat to make some funky rhythms 😎

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I was just looking at the follower as an input module, but now I see how I can just go in and out of the power module.
I saw the new quick-swap AE modular cases from KYAA at Superbooth last month, and it seemed really nice! I looked at the list of modules that don't fit in it, but I think these should all be okay.
I do maybe have budget for one more module here ...

I was thinking you could add a second DELAY module to have stereo delay, which can be super interesting. However, the POWER module has no stereo output, only the headphones (or the VCASE) has stereo out.. And oh, you stopped by at Superbooth, maybe we had a chat glad you liked Kyaa 's quickswap case, it is definitely a showstealer!

If you really have to choose one more module I'd honestly advise a 2VCA for added modulation possibilities and learning more about modular.

Isn’t that double-post just a delay demo? You could keep doing that, quoting your earlier posts, to demonstrate feedback too
