first prototype seems to mostly work fine (except for my classic mistake of having the knobs go backwards)
it's chaotic, and very lo-fi, but it's fun
so pending a few tweaks, this'll likely be available in some form in the new year

Please, for the love of your preferred deity, stop. I'm already running out of rack real estate (again).

absolutely terrific, but you’ll have to make it a MuModule for p3tr (& my) sakes ! but seriously i was eyeing one of those up , but now can look forward to a more ‘integrated’ version .. p.s. where do the samples go IN? ( i’ll have to reread the github i guess ) p.p.s. are you still Ampersands?

still me - just keeping things aligned across forum + discord our old friend the raspberry pi pico is stuck on the back which holds the samples. Infinitedigits made a pretty whizzy web tool which automatically converts .WAVs to the correct sample rate and detects the BPM and beat points, and spits out a custom .uf2 file infinitedigits.co/wares/pikocore/

I really hope that those web based tools get ported to an offline version as well, I really dislike platforms that require a webbased tools to upload/configure. What happens the day the website goes down?

Fair point, i have a few devices with web configs and i think about that too. You can usually ‘save page as’ and it’ll save an offline version which works in my experience, but that might depend how it’s been implemented

Not decided yet but probably bring your own pico would make sense as people can choose their flavour. I’m just using the standard 2mb green board here, but others may want more space

definitely, the more you can stick on there the less toing & froing to the loading computer..

This thing looks fun - interested!
Can it be clocked externally?

This thing looks fun - interested! Can it be clocked externally? It looks like it, at least I spotted an clk > pin header in the video som I guess/hope that that is the clock in and the clk < is consequentially the clock out?

clk > is clock out and clk < is clock in, i might make the labelling less obtuse (i get confused too!) haven't played around with the sync in and out much yet but will give it a thorough testing soon. The original device is designed to sync to a Pocket Operator so i figure it should work pretty well with AE triggers as well

It's pretty fun! There are also a couple of alternate firmwares available for the OG hardware which make it more of a drum/sample sequencer rather than a sample looper. Unfortunately both of them require access to the button on the pico itself to use as a 'shift' function If it's not too much work to add an extra button to replicate this i'd like to do that as it makes the module way more flexible! Might require a bit of firmware hacking... github.com/rheslip/PikoBeatsgithub.com/rheslip/Piko-33

Little jam / teaser / demo. New panel is more explanatory, and the knobs go in the correct direction now... Going to build a handful of these up soon (need to restock on buttons!)
As a side note, i've been playing with the Shredder applet in o_C Hemispheres (based on one of those weirdly named Noise Engineering modules) and it's so cool, really good for generating random interesting melodies. I'm using it here for the melodic line and filter cutoffs. Sounds pretty good with the lofi beats
edit: forgot to add, but a recent piko firmware update apparently added some kind of MIDI over serial implementation? Now i haven't been able to test this at all but based on the description maybe this would work with Wonkymidi? Worth a try...

Looking at the lines thread, it looks like at the moment only MIDI clock is supported, and you could get that from the mb/1, however if you have an mb/1 then you might as well use its clock output 🙂 HOWEVER in the case some future implementation supports mapping of MIDI notes to the buttons, and/or CCs to the controls, the THAT would be reason enough to go MIDI 👍👍

I have a couple of these built up and I'm having a tough time getting them to work. I'm about 90% sure I'm not getting the firmware on the pi correctly since it doesn't seem to do anything...
@dizzeesatchel, if I power up a Pi with the pikocore firmware but not hooked up to anything, should it do things? Like, some kind of audio signal on the audio out pin? I've tried the picos the guy links to from his original BOM, with the RGB LED and even after jumping the solder pad to hook up the LED it does basically nothing. I can run circuitpython on it and light up the LED but the pikocore firmware does nothing...
I'm about to the point of building his code with all the debug stuff turned on and debugging over serial, just to see if I've got ANYTHING on it, but it's kind of frustrating... I don't really WANT to breadboard up the whole thing just to make sure I know what I'm doing, but that's probably next.
Anyway, I'll keep messing with it, but I need to clean up my workbench so I don't have to work on stuff on the kitchen table. That sounds like a good project for, uh, right now.

I did have trouble myself getting the Pico to respond when I was loading up an incorrect wav file. it acted like nothing was loaded. I was trying to use the U-law samples that I used for the Samplyr which it didn't like so I changed it to 32bitfloat. dizzeesatchel will have the correct answer, but in case he is moving to Japan, when the firmware is flashed the picocore led's do light up and react like its stepping through the sequences. I attached it to the Meter module and it was putting out voltage through the audio out
