I'm wondering what other people do to store their cables and such. For me, I need a lightweight and portable solution (that is, no cable hanger kit) so I was looking for essentially a portable container serving as a tray that was large enough to easily select cables from, and woudn't be too cramped in storage, and could also hold 3.5mm patch cables, MIDI adapter, etc. And it had to be really cheap. I am still struggling to find a good, small, lightweight (no aluminum briefcases) portable storage option for my 16x2 AE case. The closest I've found is the Tucano Star 17" laptop bag which fits the synth like a glove on the sides but (of course) has about 4 inches of empty space up top and its interior has about 1 inch of extra thickness room. And it doesn't open like a clamshell. The Magma CTRL for the MC-707 is pretty close and protective but it's very thick (over 10cm). And expensive. [Note: I tried deleting one of the pictures, but the forum has a bug, deleting picture attachments does nothing :-) -- EDIT: hey, it works now, a forum update?].

The same cables in my old Hermitshell keyboard case (about half the size and more expensive!). I find it too cramped for longer cables (like 55cm) but you might find it acceptable.

good idea and less risk for damage. my solution is terrible. I throw them in a reusable sealable sandwich bag and then put in a backpack. at home I throw them in an open eggshell box with everything else and then I curse with entanglement every time I'm patching I'll learn one day

Very good question and interesting solution. At home I keep my cables in a few different containers. Seperating the shorter from the longer cables, seems to reduce the entanglement greatly in my experience. I really like these type of stackable, wide entrance containers. I can easily put them where I'm music making, and the cables are very 'grab-able' With the V7-case I now finally have a portable setup which i'm happy with, even though it is supersmall and might be too small depending on your intentions. I bought this "Sequenz CC-VOLCA-GR" soft case for about €30, and it fits the V7-case tightly, but nicely. When closed, it even has space to keep the patch intact, and there is a 'pocket' space at the top, which i use to stash all the cables in. Together with this I take a small, plastic lunchbox in which I put the recorder and a few cables (power for both & an AUX). If needed I take a power bank as well if I know I won't have any power sockets where I'm going. I took my larger case (16x1 row) with me in the past, and it always felt very tricky. The AE pots stick out quite a lot and they are small pots, so I'm always afraid to get them damaged this way. I never found a good bag in this size (ie: long in one directions, short in the other, and high enough for the pots). Attachments:
