Yep, literally notes. I'm clocking AE from Renoise (tracker DAW) atm. The sync between the two is very good. AE sequencers are tight with the midi clock.
I thought I'd try gating notes and pitch as well from Renoise. So I configure a midi channel one track and add some notes.
DCO and VCO are all over the place, but the wavetable OSC works very well and is perfect pitch. Algodrone not bad either.
I found that you have to put a NoteOff after the gates or they just ring on. A lot of fun though. And using breakbeat samples and retriggers for a bit of percussive variation too.
