Hey folks! I'm happy to say that after three prototypes, my port of the Allen Synthesis EuroPi has reached a stage where it isn't ashamed to be seen in public This is an easy DIY build, all through-hole. All the resistors, caps, and op-amps are pre-surface mounted so pretty much just headers, buttons, pots and screen need to be done at home - it's a ~10 step process. If you want to build one from scratch, i've made all the technical files available here (including frontpanels) so you can order from your PCB supplier of choice. Alternatively (since the minimum PCB order is probably 5 and all the SMT makes them not-so-cheap), I'm planning to sell these in a bring-your-own-pico kit form. Big thanks to Rory from Allen Synth for giving me the green light for this. It'll probably be a month or so until they're available, as I need more boards, plus i have a holiday upcoming and starting a new job But it'd be good to have an idea of how many people are interested. Kit price TBC exactly but i suspect it'll be something in the region of £60-£70, based on some back-of-a-beermat maths! In the meantime, I have five of these built, a couple of them spoken for, so up to three are looking for a home, if anyone wishes to be an early adopter?? Mate's rates for the forum crew, so £50 + shipping to your location, these come with the pico fitted and calibrated.

Just in case people aren't excited enough for this ... here is a video that explains Europi:

Very excited to try the consequencer and hamlet firmwares - seems like a nice middle ground between grids and a couple of turing machines...

So looking forward to this one. I have already some code on the backburner that could get ported to AEuropi.

These look fantastic, congrats!!!
Really glad to see Pico joining the programmable AE line up. And super cool that Rory agreed as well, a very supportive and positive person for the synth community!
Big cheers for keeping it all open source & open build docs etc as well.

Nice work! I'd definitely be interested in a DIY kit when they're available

So four are on their way out into the world...hopefully they perform nicely for people A little sad to see them go!
Black panel option in the next round?? IMO if you're going for the black aesthetic you might as well get a little Evil...

I'd definitely buy a black panel for the one that will shortly arrive this way! Keep me informed if you go that way...

Had a very quick play with the consequencer and hamlet - we're going to get on very well I think! Theres enough for me to already consider a second - the lfo thing is full of win for example.
I really like how simple the firmwares are - suits me. By comparison the O_c is a bit more complex to get your head around at first I think, but both seem just as powerful.
I'll do more playing when I've got the rains out of my system... that thing is driving me crazy with the noise, though I can't seem to ignore it: tinnitus inducing whir aside it seems a great module. I'll have to remove it for sake of sanity.
Edit: oh, and congrats on a terrific release!

Hopefully you don't take RAINS out to discover there is *still* noise
I quite like the simplicity of the scripts too. There are a couple of work-in-progress scripts out there which are a bit more involved - i've seen interpretations of Pams Workout and a Noise Engineering module - i didn't include them on these units though since they're not technically officially released But i hope/assume they'll make it into future releases of the europi firmware. Have fun!

Have fun! Fortunately I only get the noise when the rains output is connected so no danger there - it's clean! Thanks very much - while I might miss some of the immediacy/patchability of the topograf a little for rhythms I already know this will replace it... The fact I can pull sequence variations out of it too is fantastic!

Wow, now i'm checking back at the EuroPi project, it even has a main menu to select scripts now??!! Seems like an insane QoL improvement and now i understand why the usb-port is not really necessary to be accessible at all times as well. I'm actually super impressed by how much it has improved over the last year. Can't wait till mine arrives

Spot the difference? Spent another day with the aeuropi, mostly with the hamlet - it's great! Really pleased with it and scheming on a sequencing approach with that driving the O_C to generate multiple sequences variations from the pi. Funny, my TBD and then rains issues means there's lots I haven't been able to get stuck into as I was spending time troubleshooting rather than messing... These digital modules like the pi, O_c, TBD etc are a totally different approach to my usual, where I'm used to building little systems out of their blocks. With the computer based stuff I don't feel like I'm doing anything original but it's incredible that you can have something in two knobs and buttons that would otherwise take up 5 or 6 modules to build. Obviously there's less tweaking within that but that's ok. It's also making me feel slightly differently about some of my wider choices - I wonder about cramming another one of these in place of some bits, though I'll give the system a bit more playing time first since it all feels a bit brand new again! Anyhow, congratulations again on a solid release!
