Today, I finally got to play with some of the new modules that arrived a few days ago. I decided to indulge myself and have a go at re-creating some 1974 Reims Cathedral ambiences.
I managed to get some lovely raspy sounds using a combination of the Triangle Wave output of the OSC through the 2SIGNALAMP, WAVEFOLDER and SVFILTER (all new), with an octave switch made using an attenuated +5V added via the 4ATTMIX and switched in via the 3VCSWITCH (both new). I was also using the SEQ16 to drive the OSC and the LFOs to drive the CVs for the SVFILTER and WAVEFOLDER. You see, I was determined to use the new stuff
I set up some Mellotron sampled instruments and basically just jammed through some effects pedals direct to my mixer as though I was a very famous Berlin School group in the mid-70's. Finally, I did pass the whole track through a saturation effect when I rendered it - just for the cherry on the icing on the cake
Bottom Line:
I'm really impressed with the raspy vintage tones that I coaxed out of the modular, some really useful extra modules. Tomorrow, I may try some sequencing ideas that I've been having that needed some of the new modules. That should go nicely with the first part - luckily, I remembered to tune the oscillator and the SEQ16.

Wow! You've managed to recreate the sound of this very famous Berlin School group in the mid-70's tremendously well!

Great stuff as usual! I like the octave switch idea using the 3VCS. I often use attenuated gate signals for transposition, but the switch is indeed more controllable or versatile for this.

I did play a bit more today, mainly adding to the ambience of the track and then I remembered that I had a 20-year old sequence sitting on a CDR that I had found recently whilst trawling through my archives.
Never one to waste anything, I had an idea. So I took the original piece that I recorded yesterday and added two more live parts and fed in that sequence. These new parts come in at about 11.00. The resulting 23-minute track has been uploaded to Bandcamp. As the sequence was from my days in a band, I used that band account (which I also run as I'm reissuing all of the old albums).
Here's a link if you want to have a listen to how the full piece came out. It was quite fun, I must say and the AE Modular worked superbly for the atmospherics and raspy sounds.
