Hi pt3r, I really enjoy your non-ambient tracks and I like the groove on this one. I'm not sure if "Hi, how you doin'?" is a "sordid" question after looking up what "sordid" means. But I also struggled with this when I moved to a small Australian country town where I can't go to the shops without meeting at least 6 people who stop me to ask "How's it going?" I grew up in Berlin where one is more or less mostly anonymous when moving around, so having to chat to so many people was, at the beginning, a blessing and a curse. I love the sense of community it conveys, but I also always struggled with finding the right answer to the question ... How much does this person really want to know about "how I'm doin'"? Do I bore them to death with a lengthy explanation about my inner state as I struggle through life as a human being? I eventually learned to differentiate and to know when to just answer "I'm good, and you?" and move on and when to stop for a 15 minute chat. It still means that going to the shops to "quickly buy something" often takes an hour! |

Yeah it's not a real sordid question but that was the auto generated name for the track so I kept it and used it for inspiration. I basically ran with the question part of the title and came across this interview with an OCD patient and he is explaining this phase in his life where he kept asking the same bloody question over and over ad infinitum without being able to really stop. I thought it was interesting to recreate this overwhelming question over some beats while the scratching goes more and more out of control just like the bloody question.

And yes how are you doing is basically a none question in American work culture, everyone is asking how are you doing but no-one really cares for the answer. It almost turns into a greeting instead of a genuine question.
