I got very excited this morning as I saw an email from DHL notifying me that robertlanger had sent me a package and it was currently working its way across Germany towards the UK.
That email made me think about the various posts that I see here asking about a starting point and also about extra modules to buy. I thought it might be a useful resource for users to track their upgrade path, adding any useful comments along the way. So, I'll kick off with my short story.
At the end of November 2018, my RACK 2 arrived, with the additions of a SEQ16 and a NYLE FILTER. Mine also had the original ENV and 2OSC, but with a TRIQ164 replacing the STEP10, an R2 MASTER and an original 2VCA. This confirguration kept me very busy for three months, without really making me wish that I had lots more modules. It is possible to do so much with this simple setup - most of the time I was only limited by my imagination, which is where the excellent patch challenges came in to provide that extra nudge in a different direction.
Gradually, new modules began to appear and items were upgraded. I thought about new modules and was determined to get the most out of what I had. I also realised that with so many interesting modules coming out, I would llikely need a new case. Just as I had thought about adding more, using a RACKLINK, the new cases came out, providing yet another possible purchase (renewing the old case).
In the end, I went for some of the new modules (WAVEFOLDER, SVFILTER, LOPAG and OR2x4), some older ones that I didn't have (2SIGNALAMP, DIVIDER, 4ATTMIX and 3VCSWITCH) and a couple of extra, and updated, modules (2ENV and 2VCA). Added to this was a 1-ROW STANDARD CASE and, of course, a RACKLINK kit. This fine haul of modules should enable me to do a few of the more adventurous things that I sketched out and had read about others doing.
I imagine that my new modules will arrive at some point next week and they will keep me occupied for a while whilst a good number of new modules build up again. I suppose that means that I favour Revolution over Evolution...? Whichever, I look forward to some experimentation. I do always try to make use of my various experiments by making sure that the "Red Button" is pressed before I begin, even if I throw it away afterwards - which I don't often do, as there is usually something interesting or fun in there.
