Hey, I haven't posted here for a while. Too much work and not enough time for synths and my AE Modular unfortunately Despite this, I've started to finally tackle the (also long-overdue) project of downsizing my wardrobe.
Just like when I built that big thing a few years ago, I now feel that I hardly use half of what's in there and I want a smaller ... uhm ... wardrobe. I've already downsized my setup over the years from how it was in the video above, as I haven't felt much GAS for anything other than Gotharman and AE Modular ... and while I'd like a Serge modular again at some point, that point is not now, or anytime soon I think.
So, here come's my new home studio:
Notice the stool to the right! This secretary wardrobe is actually quite small indeed! So what do I need to have in there, more or less "ready to go"?
- A proper modular synth: Even though I've been looking around again, it still just doesn't seem make sense for me to go away from AE Modular.
- One or two grooveboxes/desktop synths: Gotharmans of course.
- A MIDI Controller: Using my Linnstrument 128 for this and/or a drum pad controller
- A Mixer: Hm, so that's where I might start to run out of space with my beloved Zoom R16. So maybe I have to use the AE Modular as a mixer, or the Little deFormer, or something else, like a 1010 Bluebox or just a USB interface for my iPad. If you have any small mixer/recorder tips, let me know!
Here's a sketch:
There would be three wide rows of AE Modular, placed upright, leaning back slightly. Behind it is enough space for power strips and cables then.
Next to it could be a groovebox and mixer.
On the desktop door/flip-down board thing, would be another synth and the MIDI controller. The synth I'd have to put away when I close the wardrobe, but the Linnstrument could be stuck to the board with 3M Dual Lock maybe.
Below, behind the two doors, will hopefully be enough space for the Synth stuff I don't need all the time.
I'm really looking forward to try this out. It might take a while and next few months actually don't look too good, when it comes to synth time at home, but we'll see. Downsizing my synth stuff has never been a bad thing, although I feel like I miiiiight reduce or get rid of my DIY stuff this time around. I love DIY and actually have a PCB design of a self-designed AE Modular module almost ready ... but it just takes even more time away from playing the instruments. Anyway, just some thoughts going through my head
I'll keep you posted with pictures of how this new project continues!
