This is really cool!
It also reminds me of this making-of video about the sound design for the new Dune movie. These guys went into the desert (near Death Valley, I think) and experimented with the sound of sand and sand dunes.

ok I've seen it all now
edit: Haven't finished it yet but that's quite an interesting video of the lengths they went to produce the sounds. Putting microphones underground for example.
