Hi elj6661975, Great question ! How do you envision using the modular? Is it to add extra options and sounds to your setup? Is it to replace your current workflow? Are you thinking of a hybrid thing - being part modular/part other devices? There are many choices, as you know ... and modular can become overwhelming due to this freedom ... Maybe begin thinking about developing a certain aspect ... perhaps a drum or a lead voice or filter control ... In this way, you could get to know about the depths / advantages / limitations of each module ? Have you used VCV rack or modulargrid on the net? What would you need? Do you have any effects/fx to use? An oscilloscope like the Meter module would allow you to 'see' how the audio is shaped.... So, an initial 'what you want to try first' may assist with what to buy first? Other people will hopefully respond and help too!

Well I want the modular to run by itself that way I tweak knobs and patch wires then go to my Juno 6 and start playing leads or chords I'm basically experimenting.

My classic answer, get a starter rack 2 + fx module and an extra set of patch cables. Add some drum modules if you want to have instant drum sounds. Unless you know your way around modular and you know what kind of modules you really need, this start setup will learn you the ropes about modular synthesis and provide you with a safe system for endless hours of experimentation and sonic discoveries.

you can probably shoot robertlanger an email and as whether he can build you a starter rack2 in a 2x20 case, for the FX module get the Multi FX module, it will make any sound and/or bleep immediately more appealing.

Yep, 2 effects modules: MULTIFX for reverbs and spacy sounds, and the Lofi DELAY module for delays. (DELAY is included in the starter rack 2.) And if you're starting with the Starter Rack 2, add a second sequencer-- SR2 comes with a SEQ8, and you can add a SEQ16 for longer sequences, and a 4BUFFER for clean clock signal distribution (this is more important as you add more things that need a clock).
If you want to get fancier, TOPOGRAF and/or SEQ164, DRUMKIT010, and maybe a KICK will give you a nice and flexible drum machine to go with the 2 other voices.

As well as the above the Wasp filter on the starter rack can give a trancey vibe as well as the Diode filter (not on starter rack) which is the same as the filter on the roland Tb303.

There is another member asking a similar question in the 2600 thread. Feel free to read my reply there. My suggestion to you is to do a LOT of research and take a lot of notes while you plan and price the modular. There is a lot to learn and you will want to do your homework before you start buying. Start by clicking all the modules (including all the processor and utility modules, and sequencer modules—that’s where a lot of the power is). Keep a notebook and keep track of your thinking as you learn. One of the things I love about AW is that there is the awesome wiki (and all the modules in the shop are linked to the wiki) so read up, ask questions and think and keep notes as you plan and envision what you will need and what it can all do. It will take some time but if you love synthesis even this planning stage is tons of fun.
