For a DIY beginner like me I found these guys quite exciting, easy to solder kits and CV compatible with the AE...
Just ordered the Drum synth, will let you know how I get on....

Many (many) years ago i had an AMDEK PCK-100 it was quite nice, this one seems to have the same features + some extra. Interesting :-)
Be aware that it is 9V powered, so interfacing with AE should be done with the outmost care. Maybe trigger and CV in is AE compatible.

That passive mult kit reminds me that i saw someone on the lines forum the other day who'd glued a passive mult to the side of their Korg SQ-1, which seemed like a really simple but smart idea

Yes, already checked, 9V powered but 0-5V CVs etc,

If I recall correctly, AE user krakenkraft has tried to build the Metal synth (I saw it on instagram!). I don't know if you managed to debug the unit in the end krakenkraft?

This is after sorting all the bits in the kit, very carefully checked off against the list of parts downloaded from the website. I was rather daunted as I had no idea which the tranistors/ICs were - could recognise capacitors and resistors but the latter had to be sorted in "size" - luckily Rackits provide a handy little reference chart. Magnifying glass sorted most other problems and the last item had to be the diodes!
This is IC, Transistors, Diodes and Capacitors soldered in, (untrimmed wires), next step is the resisitors which most of the rest of the holes are for so decided a good time to stop!
This is what's left to do.....
Hopefully tomorrow night I'll have a working drum synth. Must say instructions are pretty good but definitely not for beginners - I'd have been lost without the little knowledge I have and having done some wonkystuff and Keurslagerkurt kits first.

This is after tomorrow night....
Was tempted to push for the finish but started getting a little sloppy, and burnt my finger so I took the hint.....
Good instructions and like the resistors being vertical, found them easier to sodler in for some reason. PCB clearly marked which was more than helpful. All this soldering means I'm definitely improving!

Right, the drum synth is now complete, worked first time although had a slight concern as forgot about adjusting the trim pot for the VCA - it wouldn't stop making a noise but once went back to the instructions all sorted,
The main news is that yes, the AE triggers and CVs it perfectly - I've used an LFO and the Topograph so far to trigger, and an LFO & Envelope on the CV but the controls on the drum synth itself make the latter a bit unnecessary. I got a better Analogue Bass Drum on the drum synth than my AE BD module (in my opinion!) within moments,a nd did all the wild, screechy stuff within minutes too so very pleased. Will be buying the Metal synth soon....
If you would like a video of it & the AE working together reply here and I'll do a short one.

Wow, looks like a super cool & big project!! Might be something for the summer for me as well, really glad to hear it pairs so nice with AE, can't wait for the sound demo!!

Thought you might like to know, quote from the product webpage:-
Available as a kit or a fully made unit, the Rakit Drum Synth is based on the Boss PC-2/AMDEK PCK-100 percussion synthesizer.
I had an Amdek distortion pedal and a 6/2 mixer I used for years.... Sold the latter on ebay for a lot more than I was expecting!

Even through the speaker & the phone (?) mic, that bass drum sounds pretty darn good! Looks like a cool summer soldering project for this year

No, I de-soldered and re-soldered here and there, but then I decided to go on with something else to destroy ;-) But I did some other things, particularly the CrackleBox and the AtariPunk, and I would recommend rakit in general.
