I started to do it just because I can, so here it is. Please note that it doesn't bring almost any value to official AE cases.
Now that I sold you my idea, a quick explanation of the process.
- I bought and made cut some wood
- I assemble it together with nails (it made the wood to crack a little bit)
- The wood was too thick to use the mounting screws on the back
- So at first I tried to measure and do holes by hand on the back of the box, but I failed : you need extra precision if you don't want your modules to be overlaping each other or having too much space between each other.
- So the other method was to design a small mount rack using AE modular specs, mount the modules on it, and then put the result in the wood case. More neat.
And now, we can realize that the problem I have, is that I have room for 8 other modules...

Looks great! The thicker surround really changes the overall aesthetics; i like it a lot. If i was handier at woodworking / DIY i'd be tempted to have a go myself, but i'll settle for the lovely AE wooden cases

I have a small (1x16) case that will be a percussion synth - about half full now, going to pinch your idea of a case ("mounting") within a case, lot less hassle. I may even already have some suitable wood,
