It's an odd one if it was fine pre-upgrade - it isn't a problem I had in the process. You could remove the knobs though (the push on caps not the whole pot) and reposition them - there's no calibration that I'm aware of - though that might not be satisfactory if the range of turn is as it should be.

Maybe double-check which mode you're in? The pitch-tracking behaviour changes between modes; also remember every time you power up it reverts to 'original firmware' without the fixes (kinda wish there was a way to change that, as I often forget & wonder why everything sounds weird 10 minutes into playing. On the other hand this really highlights the incredible improvements in Mathias' firmware! The difference is night & day when i do remember to switch )

Considering Cirrus has memory banks I would not have guessed that I'd have to load the firmware every time I power cycle. This is weird because the instructions recommend power cycling after loading the firmware...maybe there is an additional step I'm not seeing?

Ah well this is just a terminology thing i guess.. there is only one "firmware" on the device at a time, Mathias' update completely replaces the stock code. It's just that even in the updated firmware, Mode 0 (the default) retains the exact behaviour of the original module, which is reasonable since all the additional modes are 'compromises' in some sense - in one the pitch is super steady but the CV ins for pitch and 1v/oct are completely disabled, one mode enables the pitch CV input only at the cost of some stability, another allows 1v/oct input with some quantization....etc. So i understand not wanting to completely discard the original behaviour, since it's the only way to use all the CV inputs on the module, although the pitch drift is not ideal. More options not less That said, i would have made Mode 0 the last option rather than the first, since the output in most cases is less desirable in this mode, and I tend to always use Mode 1.

just wanted to add a few things regarding pitch-tracking: There still is one tiny change to the original Cirrus behavour: with the standard setput (default / Mode 0) when you patch cables to 1V/Oct CV or Pitch CV the tracking will be slightly better than with the original code in case if you attach patch-cables to GND (typically from the MASTER module). Carsten pointed out that behaviour in his video already. So if you want the original behaviour with Pitch CV, but a little less drift you simply could patch Pitch CV to GND as well.
I agree that maybe Mode 1 would make more sense as a default, but I simply wanted to stay as close to the original as possible with my changes, that's why ;-)
Concerning better 1V/Oct Pitch tracking: With Firmware 1.2 there are now two additional Modes, which are so called Submodes of Mode 3. You propably will have V 1.2 installed already. If not, it's the standard for download now.
To reach Mode 3b or Mode 3c you have to enter Mode 3 and then press and hold the right mute button until the HOLD button lights up (once for 3b, twice for 3c) Please note: In the unlikely case that HOLD already was active it will be unlit instead. As with the mute-buttons with the original mode selects, you'll have to press HOLD again to reach its original state.
Mode 3b: This is a sub-mode for pitch Mode 3 which turns pitch-quantisation (as with Mode 3'a') off. To achieve proper tracking, the lag ("portamento") can be even more noticable. In some cases this may even be desirable, though. For instance if you control pitch with a pot or another controller you can achieve smooth Theremin-like pitch-tracking this way. Mode 3c: A different sub-mode for pitch Mode 3: The pitchquantisation is enabled again (as with Mode 3'a'), but no smoothing of the incoming CV resulting in a kind of portamento-effect is active. So this will be more direct, but also can add undesired "wrong" notes. Again these inaccuracies can be used as a feature instead :-)

Hello visuellemusik, Thank you so much for the explanation and the firmware. This is one of the modules that solidified my decision to go AE modular and the firmware makes it essential to the sound I'm going for.

Hey Cirrus fans, I finally got round to nosing around the Cirrus code and figured it was a pretty easy change to make the new Mode 1 (steady pitch, but no pitch or 1v/oct CV control) the default mode at power-on. (Well, "pretty easy" but it still took a few goes to get right)
I've been running this for a while and it seems correct to me, so here it is for other people like me who always switch from Mode 0 to 1 straight away (or don't, and spend 30 minutes wondering why everything sounds a bit weird) Attached firmware WAV file which can be loaded in the normal way. By the way, this is tested on the original revision of Cirrus, i have no idea if it's compatible with Cirrus classic!
