**Update 13/01/22**After again a lot of development and testing, this new version is now rock solid and has even been tested by our Drone Specialist pt3r who gave it the thumbs up. Also Mathias couldn't help himself and added 2 more modes to give you even more power over pitch tracking. You can access this release via the link below.
Hello all, after extensive research, programming and testing, Mathias visuellemusik has now released the official new firmware for the CIRRUS module. This firmware adds 3 additional modes which control how pitch tracking works and a new button combination to switch between those modes. You can find all information on the new behaviour, how to download and install the new firmware here: github.com/aemodular/superparasites/releasesI've also made an unlisted video on my channel where you can see clearly how to install the firmware and how those different modes work (please use the table of contents in the description to jump between sections) Please post any questions or comments here in this new thread.

a big โhats offโ to Mathias... I think iโll wait until the daylight hours to install this.. but nothing wrong with a bit of midnight video watching Carsten show me the ropes.. my blurry Saturday night brain can handle that at least

New Firmware has been successfully uploaded and tested following admin tutorial. Easy to do, Only 1 failed attempt due to volume too high but an easy fix. cheers again.

Awesome job. Will try the upgrade immediately. Great explanation of the backgrounds of the bug in admin 's video, much appreciated. Thanks again to visuellemusik for finding and fixing the bug.

Serious issue with the new firm ware update. I uploaded everything and rebooted as indicated in the video, I start playing a sound through the cirrus and after approximatively a minute it freezes and a continuous sound comes out of the cirrus. This is no good. It is now completely useless. I tried rebooting the rack multiple times. A video is being recorded right now.

This is no good. It is now completely useless. I tried rebooting the rack multiple times. A video is being recorded right now. Hi pt3r, that doesn't sound good. I had a few freezes while testing with Mode 7 (Beat Repeat) but a power cycle helped getting out of it. Please explain in detail what you did before the module froze.

I upgraded the firmware as per the video, all went fine, i rebooted the system. I connected left out of algodrone into the cirrus rebooted the rack and start recording the video and after a while it completely blocks no controls work anymore just this continuous whine. I have reprogrammed the firmware again same procedure same result. My Cirrus is completely useless now. I am in the default grains mode. This together with a switch matrix that keeps losing presets, suffice to say I'm a wee bit frustrated now.

Another test; just booting the rack and not connecting any signal to the cirrus. Just operating the controls i.e pressing its buttons to swhitch banks etc, after approximately one minute the whole unit simply freezes, no button press gets registered anymore. So yes this firmware is no good for my CIRRUS, I hope I can downgrade to the previous firmware if that is available somewhere because right now I am stuck with a module that bricks itself.

Hi pt3r, you can try to downgrade to the original firmware which you can find here: microcell.cc/doc/microcell_firmware.zipPlease follow the instructions in the included txt file. A few people have tested the new firmware and so far you're the only one reporting this freeze. Please let me know how you go with the original firmware. Cheers, Carsten.

Hello Carsten thanks for the original firmware, I uploaded it (superparasistes) following the same procedure as v1.1 and everything works back like a charm. I have the module running with the GRAINS on input, and tried different modes and none of them freeze the module.
Still very surprised to hear that this upgrade works for others; I reprogrammed it at least 5 times and always the same result; a cirrus module that locks up completely approximately one minute after booting, no matter what signals are patched in or not.
Until further notice no firmware upgrades for me :-( I still like the superparasites firmware.

I think I'll hold off updating for now, though I'm pleased that you managed to unblock yours pt3r. Just the patching into both CV and 1v/Oct will probably get me where I'd like to be - I'd tried both separately when troubleshooting but never together.

I guess I'll use the same hack if I want a steady pitch, I have the BRAEDBOARD next to my CIRRUS in the rack so it's easy enough to connect a gnd signal to the pitch and 1v/oct connectors.

Hi everybody, very sorry to hear about the freeze-issue of the new firmware that had been found. Cirrus is a really complex module and during our "private beta test" nothing of that nature turned up / was reported to me at least, nor did I notice myself during with at least 100 tests. But Murphy's law saldy seems to apply especially here?
dizzeesatchel on the tangible-waves Discord-channel gave me important information regarding how to reproduce the issue, which I was not able to do so before. I'll try to find a last fix for that, but for sure this may take a while.
In the meantime you propably should avoid Sound-Mode no.8 - "Spectral Clouds" with the new Firmware.
TBH no idea yet what's different here, because all changes I did happened two levels obove that in the code-hirarchy and I made no resource-critical changes, but I'll look into this right now.
For those of you who are interested in the details on the changes done so far, most of the stuff I did can be found in the file reverenced below and is marked with ###
all the best and sorry for any additional inconvinience again, Mathias

No need to apologize Mathias, we are in no way ungrateful for all the work you have put in this firmware, I'm happy to hear that the bug is more or less reproducible, it sucks to debug code if you can't produce the bug. I can confirm that I was indeed also running the spectral clouds mode when the module froze, so I seems like you are on the right track there. Good luck and thanks again for all the efforts.

Hi pt3r thanks for your kind words, even though you had to revert to the original firmware. I guess I also know now, why the bug did not show up during our beta-tests: it seems to be the case that it only happens with high feedback values in that sound-mode 8. As I have no JTAG-programmer or serial adapter attached I am debugging "by ear" which is an interesting concept and should work for that bug too, but makes things quite slow ;-)

Mathias, thank you for your efforts with this firmware! We all really appreciate it. Interesting that spectral clouds seems to be the main culprit so far, although Carsten also mention beat repeats mode, makes me wonder if there is something specific about those two, since the controls change around quite a lot between modes! In any case i'll continue to use this new firmware just to check no other modes are impacted - as mentioned on discord, i ran it continually for about 2 hours last night and only had any problems once i got to the final 8th mode. And minor bugs aside the improvement in other modes is night & day! I'm sure we will get there in the end

Again, i confirm, I was indeed running the firmware with highish feedback rates. No wonder that this was not revealed during beta testing.

Took me couple of try to get it working but all good after all. Gotten a small freeze (even though the feedback was under half) but a quick reboot and no more problems. Just needs to get used to listening the amount allowed and it should not be a problem ๐

Seems like all further beta testing should at least include one DIEHARD DRONER All jokes aside, glad that there is already some clarity on the issue. I'm not the biggest fan of the Spectral mode, so I'll take that downside gladly to have the more stable pitch in the original granular mode!
