Ok so AE is already cheap and small so this could well be a solution in search of a problem - but i've seen a few eurorack vids where people are saving rack space by using these passive inline controllers, eg ST Modular does a whole range of things like attenuators, LPGs, EQ etc:
Seems like these are the kinds of things which could be built on a small breadboard or even made up as little kits with PCBs (like these fellas: pushermanproductions.com/product/st-modular-workmate-0hp-attenuator/) Not sure whether these would actually be useful? - and our tiny patch cables would be more prone to coming unplugged - but it's just an idea I keep thinking about.

I have been thinking about this in the past, but i'm afraid it's not possible in AE.
Problem is that you need two connections in your cable for this: signal and ground. So with normal patch cables, you get both in a patch cable. In AE modular you'd need to plug in your signal + a second cable coming from ground. Also there is no 'real ground available on any module besides the braedboard (all other ones have short circuit protection). So attenuating to zero would also be impossible unless you have the braedboard module.
