Today is the launch of Burials ANTIDAWN EP which reminded me of this interview in Wired. Very interesting stuff IMO, to get a glimpse of the mindset of the person behind such emotional electronic music. I recommend reading it while listening to the untrue album, it gives an almost bladerunner experience. |

I like the Untrue album, I love these kind of muffled drum sounds and deep deep basses.
And what I like about Burial, is that he never followed good practices to build his music. I rade somewhere that its first releases where made with audacity, because that's all he knew. So he worked with no quantization, no fancy tools. I like this approach of "naive" music.

I think he keeps using the soundforge sound editor as his means of production. No sequencers, which probably explains the quirky timing of his drums.

The Untrue Album is pretty good!
Reading the Wire this is my favourite bit
Burial: I’ve seen people using sequencers and I’ve tried hard to use them but it’s blocks in different colours and I'm only used to just seeing the waves. I don’t need to listen much to the drums because I know they look nice, like a fishbone, rigged up to be kind of skitty, sharp. My tunes are a bit rubbish and messy but it's all I know. One day I want to make a tune people can have a dance to, I've tried.

I like how he has stuck to his guns, i.e. used the techniques that work for him. His latest EP really has this really distilled quality over it, stripped back to the bare scape side of the music, no beats just scapes and those eerie angelic vocals. me gusta.

listening to the Antidawn track off that EP just because it was the first one I saw on the tubes.
Holy cow its good.
So much there without being there if that makes sense
