Hah! Let’s do it! I just recently got a little into comics and look forward to suggestions. I’m not into superhero stuff at all and was happy to find a bunch of other comics that I enjoyed. Here’s what I liked the most so far:
Whiteout: A suspenseful, international, modern-day crime story set in various Science Stations in Antartica. Cool art style too. The Fade Out: a stereotypical but well-done post-WWII, film-noire, LA detective story. I Die At Midnight: short but oh my god - what a rush! It feels like a super fast-paced movie. Like the brain fills in the gaps between the panels, when you plough through it. It’s a (silly) trip. Cemetery Beach: Sci-fi prison planet escape story. Not very deep at all, but also quite a fast-paced rush. Trees: Tall alien “trees” land on earth, but nothing happens … nothing … what do they want? What do they mean? The suspense is literally killing us.
Also … uhm … S.e..x C.ri.m.ina.ls … totally R rated, but really funny …

+1 for Trees. I also recommend Sweet Tooth, anything by Charles Burns, and Mike Mignola's Hellboy.
