Hello, So i planned to get my first ae modular. I need advice, please. I would like to begin with a hot drone box, and, in a second time get a starter rack 2 with little modification… So i planned to try to get module who are not with starter rack 2, and try to get module who make sense for drone paint !! So for my little drone rack i planned to get : - Power (so i can use with monitoring or headphone Mono, but it is a problem with my configuration sound ??) - Drone 38 - Dronx - Drone 38 - Wave folder or ?? maybe a filter like ms20 ? Multi fx  or i planned this little too less drone but powerfull interesting maybe.. and in a second time if very happy with and get starter rack too i had Drone 38 for complement ! - Master I/O (so when i get a starter rack i don’t pick up this module !) and i need to use it with monitoring or headphone - Drone 38 - Nyle filter - Dronx - Wave folder - Multi fx  But, i need advice, please ! or complement, what you want…. i planned a rack 16 for to go with a starter rack 2 in second time… and for place ! It is for complement an actual setup machines (elektron black and lyra..) I am a very fan of Casper Electronics Novadrone and looking for a complement or similar small system drone and ae modular do drone 38 and dronx, so……. it is why… I have no idea how work a ae modular system, the system are just inspired by the video of The 5th Volt and Tuesday Night Machines, seems to be working without nothing more…. thank you for your time and help  |

I would go with this, but maybe choose the POWER module with its headphone out instead of the MASTER I/O (you probably don't need the big MASTER module in that small rack). You could then also add a 4I/O for additional input/output signals to your other synths, if you want to cross-patch between the AE Modualr and others. One Drone 38 is enough for that small rack in my opinion and the Multi FX, Wavefolder, Filters are a lot of fun. The Phaser is nice too and of course an Algodrone would provide very harsh/noisy drone sounds

Mind you I am a big drone fan but I would still advice a modular beginner to go for something more generic which will be able to scratch your drone itch but also give you a lot of cool opportunities to learn a lot of modular patching and synthesis. My 2 drone cents. |

Thank you pt3r too, but i am looking for this time drone machine, only.. than to get a complet system now… i am analog four user waiting for behringer k2, play with lyra and novadrone and looking more drone..
get a system rack 2 is an objectif at second time.. but i now with waiting time i really can’t resist to get drone 38 and dronx to starter rack (and other module..) so i begin differently……. and what i need too..
Hot to had the Algodrone in this rack..
What will be better :

- dronx
- Nyle filter
- wave folder
- multi fx
- 4i/o
or but it more glow for me about algodrone.. i think i can use it directly with drone 38 but no vca or enveloppe ?

or get a rack 2 like suggested and had drone 38 and dronx, but more time to wait to have enough money. maybe more interesting by wavetables and sawvox too and had drone…… so i project this in my better dream and get a rack for many times exploration :  |

The starter Rack 2 is very versatile and you can do whatever you want with it, including drone.
Your little rack looks great for droning but in the end you won't be able to do much more.
I'd go for the Starter Rack 2, and add one DRONE38 and DRONX. Your last suggestion is a really good one, if you can go wqith tha,t go for it, you won't be desapointed. However, I would get rid of the MM-DIVIDER and the SVFILTER (I don't really like that one on a personal level), and I would add the WAVESFOLDER and... I don't know :/ everything can be good, another LFO or VCA, or keep the modules you wanted. Or even one module from Wonkystuff or Kurt!
All in all, yhe 2row seems the way to go for me, the WAVESTABLE is absolutly fantastic and you have everything you need to start a loooong modular journey.

maybe wait a few if the module will come in black color (really love superbooth black master) and so get :
starter rack 2 with : 2env, 2vca, multifx, wavetables, wavefolder and 4i/o for begin !

The Grains seems very cool too (offer oscillator, wavetable, sample..) but can’t have library and have to add or remove, but very cool for space and price. I’m looking for Algodrone too, seems very interesting for drone too, have a invader glitchy funny too.. very good for drone for sure.. like wavetables, good too i think… If i keep only the 2 filter and add a third oscillator is it a problem ?? Sawvox is nice too (and filter in) but maybe a few close of Vco or 2Osc/d, different yes 8bits but too close (but love his sound) The new TBD digital multifunction module seems very very nice too, a swissknife, maybe the winner, can be use in very different way (filter, oscillator, fx, ..) maybe 50 library in… very interesting for the price too……!!!! ahah, crazy !! i’m here because looking for drone system, go on starter rack2 too now, with add-on, and can’t choose for just a third (four exactly) oscillator too add for begin…. now i understand why black hole and I am not yet a user and don’t have system yet !! |

Grains vs Algodrone is a difficult choice. Grains can do stuff algodrone (bytebeats) can but in a less controllable way. But it can also do a lot of other things (oscillator, karplus strong engine, envelope follower, etc...) which makes it more versatile that algodrone. But you must upload new firmwares which on the other hand also give you a whole new playground where you can write your own or customize existing firmwares.
Remember that every 2ENV module can also act as 2 independent cv controllable sawtooth/triangle wave ossicilators/lfos.

I want also to point out that the cv you feed into a 2ENV oscillator must be inverted to keep the logic of higher value = higher pitch.

now i understand why black hole and I am not yet a user and don’t have system yet !! Yeaaaaaah, I like your enthousiasm 😃😃😃 welcome to the community already, i'm sure you'll like it here too!! Algodrone is my favorite module, and for me the most unique sound in AE. Fantastic to play with it. Random enough to suprise you every time, but also enough control to use it in a 'stable' way. So much fun, so much great sounds. I love it for percussion & the weird extra spice that really makes a track/jam/drone |

So i planned to buy my first system, just wait to get a few more money (i have half money at this point)
and, waiting, if happen for the next week : black panel and add wood stand ! Oh yeah !!

so now just wait and zen for some months !! but at the end :-)

Last advice, get more patchewires than you expect to use  Often it is annoying to get into a patch and think "ha-ha I'll try this to go even further" and realise you're short on patches wires.

Very, very true, usually the longer ones.... Have discovered the trick of using a mult to make a wire longer though, even done it to go around the main patching area, but then you need 2 wires! |
