So I've experienced midi freeze by sending some notes to Midi in via Master module from my DAW. It seems I have to stop and start again in order to have it running again, but then it repeats just after a few steps again... Seems like if it's a longer note - it freezes more quickly than sending a short notes.
I'm sending midi notes from a DAW-->external audio interface-->Midi in (Master I/O).
Did any of you had the same issue? how do you get around this?
Is it possible it happens because of the external audio interface or is it something to get around with the Master module?
p.s. it seems like the envelope is freezing, because if I plug external CV in into oscillator then there's no issues, but once it goes through ENV and VCA - it freezes after a few cycles... ENV is connected to Bus Gate signal.

Hi ben, I'm experiencing a similar problem with my master module and sending MIDI from my iPad via a cheapo USB2MIDI cable. I found out that I can "unfreeze" it by just toggling the "legato" switch on the master module. I talked to robertlanger about this and he told me that he found that there are sometimes tiny timing issues with different MIDI implementations and that he finds it hard to troubleshoot because it happens to only very few people and with very different gear. Could you post your exact hardware setup? Brand and model of the MIDI interface, also which DAW are you using? Robert has sent people a new master module in the past where it was clear that the module was faulty, but it could be just this particular combination that just doesn't work.

Thanks admin for your quick response. Just tried in Legato mode - still the same issue... I'm using my old M-Audio FastTrack Pro to send midi notes. with the rest of the gear it seems to work ok with the same external audio interface, tried a few Korg Volca's and the same iPad for sending notes - all seemed to work pretty well with no issues. And a DAW is Ableton 10, running on Mac

Just tried in Legato mode - still the same issue... What I meant was to toggle the legato switch on and off in order to "unfreeze" the MIDI. Unfortunately it doesn't solve the problem of it getting stuck in the first place.

Yeah, I helped fix the midi on Axoloti and can totally sympathize with Robert, there are a myriad of quirks ( usb midi is even worst!) - it took us a few releases to get it 100%, and we were lucky because we could just issue new firmwares (and debug firmwares to test things). It’s a pity there isn’t a jtag connector to reprogram the master module.

Unfortunately it doesn't solve the problem of it getting stuck in the first place. Maybe I should replace Legato switch on Master module with a simple vactrol and control on/off by sending a pulse/cv signal, in this case it would follow all the notes and would keep switching on and off all the time admin - for my iPad I'm using iRig Midi by IK Multimedia. Bought it maybe 5 or 6 years ago, still works pretty well. No freezing with AE modular. You should try it, altho it's not the cheapest option for testing.

I haven't tried squirting MIDI from my DAW (yet), but I have had issues with stuck notes when controlling the AE Modular from my BeatStep Pro. It's always when I stop a sequence, but it's not every time. I could be imagining it, but if I press the stop button quickly, it doesn't seem to hang. I have just been pulling the power on the AE Modular, but I will try the admin patented "legato switch" trick next time This hasn't spoiled my enjoyment of a great synthesizer, so I've just got on with it. Fortunately, because of the way I record live, I've managed to avoid any bad moments - but, if I do, I'll just do another take, it is only music after all

Yesterday I tried to use usb midi keyboard to play notes via DAW and then send to modular - no notes were stuck, just when playing quickly or launching a midi track it starts to freeze. So all well while playing "live"

We can swap the module if the problem is persistent... I'll see what the reason is.

I guess that you could just use the CV and Gate out from the Beatstep Pro into the CV ins on the Master Module to control everything? That's what I would probably do if I had a BSP.

Thanks, robertlanger, I'm ok with that, just brought this up to make sure if it happened only for me or not and maybe there's a way around it or I'm doing something wrong. I can live with this issue and I totally understand that it's very difficult to deal with midi and different firmware. If you feel like it would be a good reason to test the Master module - I can send it to you. Other than that - I will live with it with no problem.
