Hi, y’all!
I’m new to AE/Modular/many things, generally. In the beginner guide, it insisted that I couldn’t break it by patching, but is that true? Other than minding external inputs through the Master/4IO, is there anything else I should avoid? I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible, but I’d like to just plug things into things to learn functionally, but I’ve been worried I might do something destructive. Similarly, is it okay to use every pin on a module? For example, using all outputs from the same oscillator?
Sorry if these questions are silly, but expect more of them from me!

Hey Welcome! Seems like you already figured out the important parts. You can use all inputs/outputs on a module for sure. That’s why they’re there. You generally want to patch outputs into inputs only, but you won’t break anything if you accidentally neglect to follow that rule. Have fun and experiment freely! That’s the beauty of modular synths and Robert from tangible waves has provided us with a safe and affordable format here.

Similarly, is it okay to use every pin on a module? For example, using all outputs from the same oscillator? It isn't called AE (abused electronics) for nothing ... you can really freely experiment! And you can absolutely use every output from any module at the same time! It's fun to use just one oscillator with its many different outputs and try to get as many different sounds from it by patching those outputs in different ways. If you haven't, please watch some of my "Getting Started" videos where I've sometimes showed how to use things in unconventional ways. And don't be afraid to ask any questions here on the forum, this is what it's for!

Thank you both so much for the replies! I’ve been watching both of your YouTube channels as I was waiting for my AE Modular to arrive. They’ve been a godsend to me. Thank you both for the time and effort you’ve put into evangelizing and supporting this platform. The community was the main reason I chose it over other synths. I’ll get to experimenting then!

You can even patch outputs from an oscillator to inputs on the same oscillator. I do that all the time to create frequency modulation.
I even sometimes mix the output of oscillators and then patch the audio mix into a CV input of one or more of the oscillators in the mix.
I recentl asked a question in the forum and Roberts answer was: "as usual, you can do anything with AE".
But as you noted your self, if you bring in external audio / CV, then use the Master module or the 4IO module.

I can confirm that you can complete The Corbomite Maneuver on the AE Modular with no harm at all. You really can do anything... OK, I struggled not to type "Manoeuvre" there

I can definitely confirm eveything said above! Every patchwire connection within the AE system can be done without harm. Another thing are connections to something outside of AE, but I assume this isn't something you want to do anyway. Finally, my promise: If you get anything destroyed by patchwire connections, you get the module(s) replaced for free.

Hi robertlanger how would the AE system feel reat to connecting the 5v rail directly to ground rail on the Braedboard, not that I was planing on doing so but I guess that could be a risk or is there some shortcut protection built in?
