Anyone know how to attach the MIXCONSOLE/3CH to the MIXCONSOLE?
I have J3 and J4 on the MIXCONSOLE and J1 and J4 on the MIXCONSOLE/3CH.
I've tried following the PCB but it's not obvious.
robertlanger Mind if I tag you here? Not sure anyone else would know

On the rear side of both modules, there are pin connectors (2x5 pins) that are smaller than the bus connectors. At MIXONSOLE, it is J4, on MIXCONSOLE 3CH it is also J4. The MIXCONSOLE 3H module should contain a short ribbon cable that connects both modules. I hope this is helpful; otherwise, please drop me a line! The pin connector at MIXCONS 3CH contains an additional header J1, that connects to subsequent channel extensions. The second pin connector on MIXCONSOLE, J3, is for the output modules (1/4 Jack or XLR connectors)

Like this? If I connect J4 to J4, the FX Sends are inverted.
That is to say, FX1 SEND on the 3CH actually sends to the FX2 SEND on the MIXCONSOLE. also .... ... what are these output modules that you speak of!

By the way, these MIXMODULES have totally changed my flow.
I have a 7 channel mixer in my AE Modular Rack!, with 2 FX sends!!, so now I bring external kit to the rack, instead of the other way round, if that makes sense.

If anything worries me about moving into a third row it's these - great addition!

I am so happy that i ordered both the MIXCONSOLE AND the DRONX mixer (and the DRONE38).
I will open up so many new possibilities.

Would you or anyone else on this thread who has a MIXCONSOLE be willing to make a video or describe in a bit of detail how you use are using the MIXCONSOLE? I bought one when they were on sale and Juno and feel like an absolute idiot, for some reason, even with the help of the wiki page, I haven't quite figured out how to use it or unleash it's potential. I understand how send and return works on 'standard' mixers but can't seem to understand the basics of this mixer, even from the four channel input and CV control :( :( It's very disheartening. If someone could shed any light it would be greatly apprecitated!

Yeah, that's the main reason I haven't bought this mixer. I just don't get it.

I don't think there's anything profoundly different between this and any other mixer on the market. When I'm using it, I typically have created some kind of synth voice and routed it to one of the various channels. This allows me to creatively fade parts in and out of the mix as well as easily apply effects. There's nothing here you wouldn't be able to do with any other mixing module, it's more just a convenience/organization thing.

I fail to see what is so mysterious about the mixconsole. The FX send return on the mix console is pretty standard, no surprises here. Both FX send 1 and 2 are post fader; no signal is routed through FX send outputs unless you turn up the level of the channel as well. The returns knobs set how much of the fx returns are mixed back in the final mix, you can use these FX returns as primitive (no panning) stereo signal inputs as well.

included the Mixconsole as part of patch challenge 28 due to your question so thought I'd include a very simple visual demo. Hope it's clear enough.
Added an LFO to CV1 to modulate the main voice and then added Reverb then Flanger via the FX Send/return1
Cheers

The FX send return on the mix console is pretty standard, no surprises here. That's what I'm saying. I don't even know what FX send and return is. Imagine a situation where you have a lead voice, a bass voice, a kick drum, a snare and some hihats and you want to put those through some reverb to create a more roomy mix. You could mix all the signals together and send that signal through the fx module and record the output of the fx module, the problem is that now every voice in the mix will get the same amount of reverb added, even if you wanted less reverb on the kick drum and more reverb on the hihats. To control the level of reverb for each signal individually you use a mixing console whereby you connect each signal to its own channel. and you connect the FX1 send of the mixing console to the input of the FX module. and connect the stereo out of the fx module to the FX1 return inputs of the mixing console. Now you can specify the amount of each signal that gets sent to the FX module individually by turning up the FX1 send knobs of the respective channels on your mix console. The level of the reverb signal coming back from the fx module in the end mix is set by turning up the FX1 RTN level. You want to add delay to your hihtats and snares? Patch the FX2 send output of the mix console into the delay module and patch the output of the delay into the FX2 return inputs of the mix console. Now you can turn up the FX2 send knobs on the hihats and the snare channels thus routing tose signals to the delay module, the level of resulting delay signal in the final mix is set by adjusting the FX2 RTN level know on the mix console. I hope this explains it some how.

The FX send return on the mix console is pretty standard, no surprises here. That's what I'm saying. I don't even know what FX send and return is. Well, because the feature set of mixconsole is standard, the many resources that already exist online about mixers should be equally applicable to learning about this module. 🙂 There's assuredly a better explanation elsewhere online, but here's my best shot. At a high level, any channel can have a portion of it's signal sent to a send, the send is typically routed to some kind of effect, the output of the effect is typically routed to a return, and that return is mixed back into the master output. So it's typically for mixing various elements of your mix into like a reverb or something (kick has no reverb, synth has some, snare has a lot, etc...)

The FX return level knob controls how loud that item would be in the mix :D Thanks everyone for the feedback. Esp appreciate your moral support funbun, I just love your music and considering the complexity of your patches that made me feel a little better. Thanks also maydonpoliris for the great video! I probably should have been more specific with my questions: -Why is it that the LED monitoring completely stops working if I have a cable plugged into the 3.5mm Main out stero and usually stops working if I am using the 3.5 mm Main left and Main right outputs (most often bringing it into two of the channels from the Koma Field Kit FX)? This does not seem to be the case if I'm just working with the AE system and connecting the Main LR outs to another AE module. The volume is considerably higher when bringing into the eurorack world, is it just that the volume levels register differently (sorry that's probably a badly asked question). -If I am to keep entirely within the AE system, how do people use the Main L and R output? Right now I just have it going into Audio 1 and Audio 2 of the Master I/O but I'd love to hear of other suggestions. -Sometimes I get a sort of high pitched consistent hiss or hum coming through, irrespecitve of patch or having anything plugged in at all. I've tried to troubleshoot it but haven't really found definitively that it happens only in X scenario. It sounds like a bleed of some kind almost. Is that just the nature of the beast or am I not doing something correct? Thank you!

no probs morgs-Sometimes I get a sort of high pitched consistent hiss or hum coming throughThat is weird especially if nothing plugged in. maybe some kind of feedback from the return volume. are all of the volumes turned down or happens regardless?-If I am to keep entirely within the AE system, how do people use the Main L and R output? I haven't used it within the system as yet, I use it mainly to send to 2 channels of a mixer which I pan left and right giving it more stereo feel. would be interesting to play around with it though within the Ae. taking the left and right through different fx or different filters.-Why is it that the LED monitoring completely stops working if I have a cable plugged into the 3.5mm Main out stero and usually stops working if I am using the 3.5 mm Main left and Main right outputs
I use the main left and right outs and the leds work ok. starting to think there is maybe a short of some kind in your system? can you check to see if the bus pins are connected properly or something like that?

Thanks for the great tips and apologies for the slow response! I wanted to make sure it isn't something I'm doing but after quite a bit of experimentation I think something might be wrong with my module. I'm attaching a short clip that hopefully highlights the two main issues I seem to get--first is that I don't seem to have a consistent or stable LED monitor. Sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not. For it to appear I use need the main volume knob to be all the way to the right as well as the individual knobs. I do seem to see more consistent LED response when using the FX knobs. The second issue and the main one is that I get either/and/or a high pitch output (which I initially thought was maybe because I was using the MS20 filter but will be there if using something like the delay as an FX) or I get a continous noise output. This seems to be whenever I'm using the MULTIFX as one of the send/returns. However, I don't think anything is wrong with the MULTIFX module as I will use that in a 'regular' patch so that the mono output goes into one of the four MIXCONSOLE input channels and I don't have any issue of this noise bleed. Does anyone have any suggestions for further troubleshooting? Otherwise should I reach out to Robert? Thank you everyone!

I bought the Compact Mixer and am very happy with it. It gives a nice sounding warm output. I found that my external mixer coloured the sound a bit and made things sound a bit waspish and raspy. They always seem to and I have lots of different external mixers in the past (current one is an Allen and Heath). I don't know why Roberts mixer sounds as good as it does. Maybe better components and amplifier?
