Hi,
I have an AE Modular setup and have been enjoying playing with it so far. Now, it might just be an error or oversight on my part, but when running a sequence from the SEQ16, I can never get whichever VCO is being triggered to stop making sound when I stop.
What would I need to do to ensure that all sound ceases to play when I press stop on my master device (in this case, the Roland MC-101)?

Hi,
In a modular setup the vco always makes a sound, it never stops. To make it stop you need to patch it through a vca which gets an envelope which in turn is triggered from the gate out of the sequencer.
See my video on the basic patch below. I hope this helps.

Yeah, the VCO is always singing, as it were. It doesn't know how to stop. So you need a low-pass gate (LPG) or a VCA controlled by an envelop to "tell" it to stop. In reality the VCO isn't stopping. Instead the envelop is "telling" the amplifier (VCA) to stop sending anything through. The same is true with a LGP. Modular synthesis is sumed up in these two concepts: - It won't do anything until you patch it to do something.
- It won't stop until you patch it to stop.
- If you want it to stop or go, you have patch it to do so. That's true for everything in the synth.

That's why IMHO semimodular synnths like the behringer neutron are not really that great introduction to the world of modular since they already work out of the box with a predefined 'patch'.

You can also never have enough VCAs.

You can also never have enough VCAs. And envelopes for that matter...
