I've decided to go all digital oscillators for my system. I have two FMOS, and I'm looking to get two more digital oscillators. Do I go WAVETABLES or GRAINS? I know GRAINS has the advantage of loading different firmwares. However, WAVETABLES has a much higher bit rate.
Cost being the greatest difference, you can buy two GRAINS for the cost of one WAVETABLES, and have a software solution for many, many modules. A new module is only a firmware update away.
Those of you who have both, how does the wavetable firmware feature of GRAINS compare to the WAVETABLES oscillator in terms of sound quality? Is there a notable difference between the 8-bit Arduino Atmega chip and the 16-bit audio in WAVETABLES?

Didn't realize @5volt made a new GRAIN video featuring the WEST COAST firmware, exactly what I was looking for! The GRAINS module is incredibly powerful!

I think the Wavetable is build on way better hardware than the GRAINS. The GRAINS is basically an 8 bit Arduino pressed to the max.
But the Grains has the huge advantage that you can change the firmware yourself, which as far as i undertand it is not possible on the Wavetable module.
So of course as allways, you need both :-)

So it seems your trigger delay derams has come true.

We're on a similar path in terms of sound generation- think I'm going to switch out my wavefolder for the grains and then consider the 2oscd for either another fmos, grains or possibly ms20 filter. I have the algodrone too so that gives me another crunchy option. I'm still trying to limit my rig to two rows but that won't last...
