Hi all,
First post here : it's been a while since I wanted to get my hands on a system, as the format and philosophy attracted me for a couple reasons yet I was pretty busy with my Eurorack developments these past years.
I'm still very busy, yet I decided to order a starter rack 2 + some extras a couple months ago, and the packet is leading my way now!
I think it's important to diversify and my goal is to develop some modules in AE format, for which I hope we'll see more third party modules coming.
I'm not decided yet if I keep my matte black and gold panels in this format, and the community here seems open to integrate different designs/colors to their systems.
While looking at the Wonkystuff products, I noticed the AE logo on the front panel, and was wondering what would be the best practice on this topic. In any case I may need to differentiate AE modules from my Eurorack ones so people don't get confused and possibly get something in the wrong format.
Thanks in advance for your inputs!

I’m not sure that there is any ‘best practice’; I simply included the AE logo as an indicator of the system the modules are for (I have a couple of other things which are not AE). I think I just grabbed the logo image from the webpages my only consideration was not to stray too close to any ‘official’ modules — the market is still small (relative to eurorack at least) so I didn’t want to steal customers! It will be good to see some other modules!

Fine, thanks for your input!
Even though my modules might not look like the original ones, I just didn't want people to possibly be intrigued in the future and think these could be TW affiliated products, so I guess I'll find an other way to give indications about the format.

Hi XODES, welcome to the community! I think it's great news that you're planning to develop your own AE modules. Having a thriving 3rd party eco system is a great indication of a healthy format and community. About the use of the AE logo I've not received a clear answer from Robert yet. It seems John "got away with it", but the AE logo is a trademark and brand owned by Robert of tangible waves and anyone who wants to use it would probably want to at least check in with him whether he's OK with it. You can contact robertlanger via the contact form on the website or here on the forum. All the best, Carsten.

I'd live to see some more third party modules. and having different panel or colours can make the whole alot more nice.
can also be nice to see new VCO or filters or other "generic" module,s just if they have some difference. I can't se the point to have an exact same lof with just a different brand.

Thanks, that's actually what I had in mind : a logo being generally legally attached to a brand, it might only be used with permissions, or under certain circumstances like an official collaboration, and I had the feeling that applying the AE logo on third party modules would have been like using the Doepfer one on every Eurorack module!

… and I had the feeling that applying the AE logo on third party modules would have been like using the Doepfer one on every Eurorack module! My feeling is that ‘Tangible Waves’ is the company, and ‘AE’ is the format; so not like putting ‘Doepfer’ in eurorack, more like the MIDI logotype, or CD. Still, whatever — future designs will be different.

Welcome! Yes, we want more modules! First order of business: comparator and a trigger delay! Second order: MORE CHAOS! Third order: a complex sequencer! Fourth order: MORE OSCILLATORS (or at least a VC LFO)! Fifth order: Anything you want!!!@!!!1!!!!!!!!

Still, whatever — future designs will be different. Actually even though these are often mixed, a company name, brand name, and logos are most of the time distinct legally speaking, and might all be protected separately.
Speaking of MIDI, even though it's "free" you actually have to get a license from the MIDI Manufacturers Association if you were to use the logo! (and you have to pay an annual license if you want to get an official SysEx Manufacturer ID ).
There's a lot of small details we don't usually think about when doing things at DIY level, and once you go on, register your company, and are warned about some legal stuff, you may find out that a lot of people/companies may break a lot of rules and be out of the law "without knowing", yet that's another topic.
It doesn't look like you'd have issues with Tangible Waves, and if it were problematic, I feel this is something pretty easy to solve at this level

I can't guarantee about which modules will come from me yet, and I surely would need to live 150 more years if I were to release everything I have in mind or in my notes. I guess there will be adaptations from my Euro modules and vice versa.
Still, some of those that are planned in the future may functionally speaking be close to what you'd be after, and it could be a matter of weeks now before I get prototypes for some modules I already designed. I simply was waiting to get my system first!

Sweet! What modules do you have in Eurorack? Web site?
Never mind, just checked your Web site out. I like the TP8. The other modules are great as well. Oscillators get all the press, but utility modules are the backbone and nerve center of any synth. Any of these would be more than welcome in the AE format.

Sweet! What modules do you have in Eurorack? Website? All of the useful links are in my signature A lot more modules have been developed compared to what's on the website over the past years, and I archived everything that's not available right away (mostly previously visible on Instagram).

Welcome!! Very hyped to see what's you come up with 😁
I'm a fairly new AE user, but I really love this format so far and the great vibe in the community & the great vibes from TW! I think everyone around here is stoked for more third party modules, its a winwinwin for everyone and the path to a bright AE future. We don't need companies which pursue 'endless growth' and endless 'upscaling', i'd rather have tons of genuine small businesses' run with love 😁
So again: looking forward to what you come up with further down 2021!!!

For a registered company, doing things only with love is unfortunately not sustainable!
My goal is not to make million units though!
I try to work with local, human-sized businesses, and if mine needs to grow, I too want to keep it human-sized as well.
Only time will tell if it makes sense. I'll share info about my prototypes, surely next month, and will start with small batches if there's enough demand.
