The way I did this in the past is to take a TRS cable from the Volca sync-out into either the 4I/O input or into one of the MASTER CV inputs. Then patch into the BEAT DIVIDER to create meaningful beats, eg. 1/4th, 1/8th or 1/16th.
Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for replying 😊 I have the starter rack so no beat divider module. I'm thinking I need a sequencer??

So I just tried this with the Volca Drum as I no longer have a Sample. The Sync signal is the same in all Volcas so it should work the same for you.
I found that I don't need the beat divider module at all! You can just take the sync signal as is.
If you only have the Starter Rack 1 then you don't have that many options for doing rhythmic things, but you could take the sync signal to start an envelope.
The next expansion for you might be simply the MM-Divider which gives you a lot of rhythmic options from a simple incoming clock.
A sequencer is also a great addition.
