I've noticed that certain patch cable sockets on my AEM have become very sensitive. If I accidentally bump a patch cable or unplug/plug-in a patch cable it will introduce static crackling into the final mix. Has anyone else ran into this, and is there a workaround?

Yes, sometimes a certain cable and socket combination can be a bit loose. In that situation it helps to bend the pin on the cable just a little bit into a curve or S shape. This can be easily done with your fingers, but really only bend it just a tiny little bit and not while it’s in the socket of course. This will make the cable sit tighter and with better contact. The new/upcoming sockets will be improved this.

Indeed, some users reported this problem; as a workaround bending the pin a little bit as tuesdaynightmachines describes should help. Because of this I changed to new, improved sockets that will be standard for the future.

I find relocating the modules which you will be interacting with their knobs more often to the bottom row helps. By doing that your hands would be less likely to accidentally touch the patch wires.

Do all of the modules now have the new socket style, or only the newer modules? Wondering whether I should do a full upgrade and gift the old modules to a friend.

Wondering whether I should do a full upgrade and gift the old modules to a friend. my package arrived 3 days ago including a mixer-4, triq164, 2vca and 2env. all have new sockets. i found them to be a vast improvement. they also make the whole system look better. now i wish all of my modules had these new sockets. these are very cheap on AlieExpress, shipped directly from China. if you have time and can solder or have a good friend who can, here is the link s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bkzHgjWuYou can also find good patch wires on the site, the one with square ends are the best.

These look like normal / standard patch wires, the metal points are nothing different, just shorter. I found it easier to patch with these.

Hi huynguyen, Robert just warned me that because these square pins are not solid, but really only a bent sheet, that they could catch on the tiny springs inside the new patch sockets and tear them out. You may be lucky, but that's the warning I got. Also the patch sockets are custom made as they are longer than the normal ones that you can get online. This was discussed a while back, see here: forum.aemodular.com/post/500/thread

My 4 I/O module has just came in with the new sockets, and they are much more stable. I'll probably change all the most wonky modules for the ones with new sockets in the end, but it's nothing crucial for me, so some new interesting modules (and another rack) are higher on the list BTW I was buffled a bit with mounting new module as I couldn't find any matching screwdriver or hex key for the black screws on the module's surface but hapilly I've found out removing bottom screws was enough.
