You will need to also include an envelope and a VCA in your patch to get note on and note off. In a modular synth the oscillators are always on. Please read through the Wiki getting started section which explains how to build your first basic patch: wiki.aemodular.com/pmwiki.php/AeManual/Step4FirstBasicPatchAlternatively you might find my series of YouTube tutorials helpful, especially starting with this one:

You have to patch from OSC to VCA to Audio out. And Bus Gate to an ENV Gate in. ENV Out to VCA CV. Edit: Too slow for admin

Proceeding from the MASTER's MIDI, post-input:
BUS CV -> VCO BUS GATE -> 2ENV G/T1 IN VCO (whatever waveform you like) -> (your preferred filter) IN 2ENV OUT1 -> (the above filter) CV IN (that filter again, whatever output you like, or the only output in some cases) -> 2VCA IN1 2ENV OUT1 (also) -> 2VCA CV1 2VCA OUT1 -> whatever you're using for an output
So, jam the wires in in that sequence, futz with knobs accordingly. Basic single VCO patch. Then proceed from there...

It should work

A manual with a standart patch should have been included with your system.

Don't sweat it...lots of people don't "get it" right off. One of the more famous stories of this sort involved no less than the legendary keyboardist Josef Zawinul, who worked with Miles Davis prior to forming Weather Report...
Zawinul got one of the early run units of the ARP 2600...no, not the "blue meanie", but the Rev.2. So he got it home, started screwing with it...and the next day, he rang up ARP to tell them "Man...it sounds GREAT! But how do you get it to stop?" Turns out that no one had explained how to properly use the VCA, and he had the "VCF" output slider up the whole time...which, of course, means that the sound _won't turn off._ So, yeah...happens to everyone at some point.
