I like to incorporate the AE into mixing. I've been trying to make authentic early 90's lofi breaksbeats. I found it difficult using modern tech, but now I have a result I'm happy with and I'd like to share it for anyone after the same sound.
In this idea I run two breakbeat loops and leave space for a normal dance beat. I use the AE to filter one of the loops (adding punch) and I use the wave folder to slightly drive and smear the mixed breakbeats (also adding some highs back). I also use midi to trigger an envelope which ducks the breakbeat sound via the wave folder. It's like a sidechain effect. The AE OUTPUT is fed into an EQ (EQP-KT) and then an audio interface.
I have a very crude audio demo. The drum sounds were quickly selected so maybe not the best choices. These sounds are not put into the wave folder and are normal CD quality. Beforehand the breakbeats are changed in Audacity to 11025HZ and mono. The sample rate cuts the highs but the snare is still defined.

time
0-20 seconds... finding a wavefolder pump sound (I mess with env and the wavefolder cv to find a balance)
20-45 seconds... midi on/off (the breakbeat becomes clear and unclear with the kick as I switch midi on and off)
50-1.10 seconds... filter effect on sample (showing the two breakbeat layers separately and how the filter makes one more driving than the other, whilst maintaining the same sound characteristic so they blend well). Originally there was little different in drive and one issue with driving a sound is that it usually changes character.

Any cracking sound is just the wave folder shape knob in the wrong position. This was unplanned so I forgot to record bypassing the AE, but the AE really does some important jobs.
