So the first phase of my Banaenae is complete(ish), so I figured it was time to put up a wee thread in case anyone else was thinking of going down the same route at any point. I only finished routing the power today, so haven't done anything melodic with it yet. (If you want to see how I usually sound, feel free to check my youtube channel ) Here it is in all it's dog-eared, paper coated glory. Yes. I did record it with my mobile phone through the crappiest speaker I could find. You're welcome. Here's another front shot, with a standard rack on top (where I'm drawing power from currently.) I've mounted the midimuso octex inside the case to do MIDI to CV conversion duties. Here's a rear view of the modules in all their heinous glory. And a shot from below of the wee feet I hammered on there to stop it from scratching the desk. So that's where it's at. It's ugly, I know. But there was little point in me making a nice case before I was sure I could make it all work. There's a filter missing, I decided at the last minute to put the NYLE I have in the second case that's going to be made up next. I still have a voice's worth of modules I held back in case I screwed the whole thing up. I'm very glad I didn't. I'll shoot a video of the process of dismantling the PCB and putting it to the new faceplate this Sunday. It's all pretty straightforward, take bits off, add wire to PCB, solder to bits, poke through hole. I tried to do this for the absolute minimum amount of cash possible, and will slowly upgrade things like knobs and faceplates as time and funds allow. Any thoughts or questions, I'm all ears and answers. Cheers!

Hi bearheadwood, could you please change the settings on your video so that it can be played from an embed in a website? Currently it shows as "not available". This is just such an amazing and crazy project! Hats off to you, no two hats and a cap off to you for starting it and seeing it through!

The fact I have a working synthesizer after my meddling is a great relief.

Very impressive. Do you also have modules with a display (like the quantizer) and do you plan on bananizing them as well?

Hey bearheadwood, with the midimuso octex how do you deal with the 10v output on the cv?

I'm not even going to bother trying to do a conversion of my TRIQ164, it's just wayyyy too much work, and I barely use it anyway. My endgame here is a four voice 8+ osc system with enough filters and VCA's to highpass and lowpass each voice, and do some fun stuff with the signal, nothing particularly complex. I've just got a TORAIZ squid to do my sequencing, so that will handle that part of the equation (for now, haha). If I decide to get some more involved modules further down the way, I'll just bang together a Banana to DuPont conversion box and go from there.

Hey bearheadwood , with the midimuso octex how do you deal with the 10v output on the cv? My secret is....... (drum roll) No midi notes above A5. I realised I could either shell out for another three 4 I/O or just not send the notes that convert to higher voltages. So I just don't do that. I realised the other day that my new squid sends velocity per step, so I'm going to have to test that and figure out the cap on that, too. But another lane of CV for the sequences is going to be super fun, I hope!

Lol well that works I guess! I'd be so scared of accidentally hitting the wrong note!

Top case has been finished, 1.0 completed. Some amazing colouring in by my lead panel designer, and I left myself a wee bit of space to make a few modules! Next steps from here are to reknob the entire thing with davies 1900's, because they're smaller and better, then once I've filled out the last of the top cabinet I'll redo them as one solid piece, instead of a series of modules. For now though, I am satisfied. (Well aside from MIDI to cv problems, but I'll get them ironed out soon enough.)

It is tempting for sure, but I'll probably end up using making nicer panels as an excuse to splash out on a small CNC machine with next year's tax return. I'll be sure to pass on your compliments to the panel designer!

Great colour pencil work there! Last year I was about to sell our old dining table and I noticed extensive murals on the underside. clearly weeks of dedicated work with the help of a little friend, no doubt. I was tempted to put the price up!
