As I've already posted elsewhere around here, I've just gotten two wider cases and a few new modules. So while I was unscrewing all the modules from their old cases, I thought about their placement in their new home.
Here's a picture (best open it in a new tab/window):
It's two, 2-row 20U wide cases, which are not supposed to be portable for the time being, so they just sit in my studio wardrobe on a slide-out tray.
1st row (top):
Blue: audio sources - VCOs, SOLINA, ALGODRONE and my DIY STARGAZER attempt. Generally, those are modules I don't need to touch a lot during performance.
2nd row:
Green: filters, which I do want to touch occasionally during a performance, so they sit more on the outside. They're usually used together with audio sources, so they're close to those in the row above.
Yellow: other audio effects - WAVEFOLDER, 2SIGNALAMP (useful for distortion and also levelling of signals going in/out of filters/effects), DELAY, MULTIFX ... I don't wiggle those a lot.
Pink: VCAs, which I don't touch much at all, so they're in the middle under all the spaghetti.
3rd row:
Red: Envelopes, which sit close to the filters above and which I sometimes like to adjust during performances.
Then there are a lot of modules which I don't touch at all, or which don't even have controls, so they can be buried below the cables. There's also my BINARYLOVE sequencer and my FELIQUENCER prototype.
4th row:
Purple: This is my hands-on row, out of the way of most cabling. SEQ16, my (currently unlabelled) DIY GENERATIVE CV SEQ, VCSWITCH, 2CVTOOLS prototype, 4ATT/MIX and my big DIY spring reverb tank & touch sensor module. From here I can control a lot of parameters of my patch. The hole in the middle will hopefully be filled with DIY modules soon, such as a manual switch/mute module.
On the right side, colored light blue, are two mixers. The top one is my main audio output mixer, close to the 4I/O above it, and the bottom one is a prototype of the upcoming POLAMIX polarizing mixer with offset, which is great, especially for creative CV mixing. Those could go also in the bottom row, but here on the right side they're very accessible as well for lots of tweaking.
Even though I tried to keep things efficiently placed (VCOs close above the Filters for example), I obviously need long patch cables, but that's fine. In my Eurorack years I tried so many different arrangements and after a while, I just kept buying long cables and mostly just cared about how much I want to touch a module, or how much it may be buried in a patch.
