Everytime when i read in the forum and use a link it gets redirected over this site: redirect.viglink.com As iam using a pi-hole at home I always have to copy my links over and delete this redirect part. So my question is, does the forum get some money from that link or is it just some kind of standard configuration? I could get thru all the lists from the adblocker and delete this one, but i am not sure, is it in there for a reason? Because a lot of spam sites and pop ups are in the lists.

Viglink seems to be basically a legit advertising service; but of course this kind of stuff is annoying. It is a local installed service, some possibilites to remove it can be found e.g. here: www.pccareguide.com/remove-redirect-viglink-com-working-methodsThis is defintely not related to the AE forum; I just checked it - links are opened directly. Hope this helps!

It is totally the forum, I have noticed it too and I can see this code in the page :
var reV = function() { if (typeof vglnk !== 'function' && retry++ < 5) { setTimeout(reV, 500); } else if (typeof vglnk !== 'function') { $('a').not('.norewrite').each(function() { var url = $(this).prop('href'); if (url.indexOf('http') === 0 && url.indexOf(document.domain) === -1) { $(this).prop('href', 'http://redirect.viglink.com?key=71fe2139a887ad501313cd8cce3053c5&subId=6962053&u=' + escape(url)); } }); } }; admin

Hello Everyone, ProBoards is basically a free service and Robert only pays very little, mainly for having banner ads removed and enabling a custom URL. Otherwise he (and I) don't have to do any work to keep the code updated, manage attacks or care for uptime of the service. Overall a really good deal, I think. To keep the price low (or even free) ProBoards has a deal with VigLink where they use the redirection service in some way to create revenue that helps ProBoards keep the lights on. How this is supposed to work, I don't know as I don't even see the redirection happening when I click the link. But Gaëtan is right, it's some javascript that hooks into the links and causes the redirection. This is completely transparent to most users unless they use some nifty firewall setup. I use an adblocker on Chrome and the link redirection still works completely unnoticeable. I think there is nothing nefarious about this, just a very unobtrusive way of ProBoards to earn some revenue from a "free" service. Please let me know if you have any other concerns about this and I can bring this to the attention of the ProBoard admins, their support forum is very active and actually they are quite responsive. Cheers, Carsten.

Kaspersky doesn't seem to like the Viglink redirects. However, I tell Kaspersky to shove it regarding the links off of here, since I trust the origin point, and I get that this is a prepackaged forum, ergo it's likely to have "features" like that. And thus far, it's been just fine...no mystery redirects to assaultive adverts, 50,000,000 popups, none of that.

There is a Wikipedia entry about it with lots of references to read: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/VigLinkIts totally OK for me if the forum is cheaper then, I just wasn't sure about it, I just will delete it from my lists maybe or copy it over like I always do. I don't have a problem with commercials to finance websites, I just don't like stuff that knows more about me after some years as myself, because I forget stuff.
