It occurred to me that I own my AE Modular for a year now, so I filmed this VLOG about my experiences: What are your thoughts on the matter, after you've had the synth for a while?

As I ws scrolling around earlier today I got a "recommended for you notice" by YouTube shortly after your posting it.
I really enjoyed your review of using the AE Modular gear for over a year and your breakdown. I know this is going to sound weird but I found what you said about the cables to be of great interest as that has been one of my concerns.
Looking forward to your two-five year reviews too in the future!

Looking forward to your two-five year reviews too in the future! The cables got a huge improvement now; they are made of soft, flexible silicone now with a solid, gold-plated, little bit thicker pin that sits quite firm in the sockets - even the older socket type that was used in the first two years of AE modular. I expect them to be in the shop in 1-2 weeks (they are currently in production).

It occurred to me that I own my AE Modular for a year now, so I filmed this VLOG about my experiences: What are your thoughts on the matter, after you've had the synth for a while? Excellent, as always, NightMachines, and a very fair summary, based on my own experiences with mine (autonomously patching and tweaking since November 2018) - and thank you for the mention
You raise an interesting point about how the AE Modular can help to solve something for most people (or just plain solve it in some cases). Whether it be a wish to get their feet wet with modular, integrate into other systems, or just simply have some fun and make some noise.
For me, it was about integrating it into an existing setup combined with always wanting to have a modular - but initially not having the money, and then not having the space. So, the AE Modular slotted right in for me. I've found what it does exceptionally well and I have mined that mercilessly in what I do
I have also found what it can be made to do well with a little extra thought and application, and again I've mined that. Finally, I've found what it does less well than other gear and I've learned to work around that, with the thought that as improvements come through it will no doubt handle those aspects admirably.
Personally, I love the feeling of a blank canvas and then sometimes just hearing what happens when I patch these and sometimes aiming for something specific and hearing how close I can get. I like to be record-ready whenever I patch, mainly as there can be some amazing accidents that I want to capture. A lot of these have been used as the backdrops to various other recordings as they inspire a mood or an ambience.

This is the video that showed me AE modular was something that actually existed! I always wished for a modular format that used tiny patch cables like the BASTL KASTLE so when I saw that It made my day, definitely on my purchase list!!! The ms-101/RD-08 can wait.

Haha, before starting the AE project I was googling for many days because I was sure there must be a modular synth that uses this tiny cables - in my case, it didn't existed (only tinysizer, BASTL stuff...), so I had to do it ;-)

I have had some samples of the new cable, and much nicer to use, very sensual..... the Mark 2 cables are fine in my opinion, but the original cables may go in the recycling bin as I have a lot of the new wires now. I just order a few with each module order....

I have had my AE Modular around 2 years now; it's expanded from an original 1 row system to being half way through my 3rd row now. I wanted to get into modular for a long time but the price was prohibitive; Robert solved that one! What clearly started out as a personal project is gradually becoming more and more professional; the updated modules, cables etc. are the most obvious signs, but it's also the details like the better sockets on the newer modules. I didn't expect the great sound (ordered unheard as I was a Kickstarter supporter), this and the rapid increase in modules has me completely hooked! Any problems I have had Robert has always been great, and the launch of the forum has helped me try/learn new things.
Like TNM, I have had no break downs, did drop the original rack once as well!
All in all, it's been the best music investment I've made in the last 3 or 4 years, and that's with the latest order it become my 2nd most expensive piece of kit ever... I have M.A.S. (like GAS but for modular guys...)

Well, I've not got mine YET...but that's about to happen, and it's not going to be a little rig. And the reason I'm confident about dropping a big chunk of $$ on it is because as the past year-plus has gone on, and I've heard numerous tracks, seen Robert's attention to both detail and his user base, and watched the simple beginnings turn into a system with major possibilities (and more in store as new modules drop), I've been convinced in a big way. At present, I could go with Eurorack or with MU...but I'm not. The AE system gives me what I need and then some, and it does all of this at a budget point that allows something that would cost $22k+ in Euro (and we ain't talkin' Cwejman modules here!) to come in at about 1/4th of that. Plus, it's small, it's easily roadable, easily powered, and I can fit something ridiculously HUGE into a space that...well, isn't. And the whole mess should fit nicely in an SKB case about the size of a large briefcase; in comparison, the Eurorack "AE mockup" I did on MG took about seven rows @ 168hp, and I think we all know that that wouldn't be any fun to cart around. Going with AE allows me to fit my entire live rig into the trunk and backseat of a Hyundai Elantra. And that's NOT a massive, cavernous space!
So, no, it's not in hand YET...I'm waiting on a few spec questions, then once those are in, I should be able to keep Robert busy for a hot minute starting around the end of next week. As for where my own AE system's going to take _me_ in a year's time...well, we're going to have to wait a year, but the last year (and then some), for me, was the clincher on this.
