I’m looking at getting a trigger for drums/ rhythmic stuff and wondered what people’s thoughts were on the Triq164 and Topograf? Thanks🙂

Both are really good drum sequencers. Check out my videos below where I'm explaining how they work and hopefully this will help you make up your mind: Also there is the fantastic EuclidGrid by Kyaa which you should definitely consider. I've made a video about that one as well: Have fun!

... or the RBSS ... or build your own trigger sequencer using the Tangible waves using the DIY kit. or send a bunch of lfos into the quantizer or ...

...the point is that there are so many options to create triggers on the (AE) modular. You are only limited by your imagination and the number of available patch points.
- take the NOISE d output and combine it with a LFO square wave in the LOGIC module and use it's resulting AND output to make 'random' trigger that will still be in sync with the rest of your patch.
- use the individual trigger outputs of the seq8 running in random mode to create rhythms that fall outside the conventional 4/4 structure but still in sync with the overall clock pulse - two square wave lfos into the CV mixer can create some weird fluctuating rhythms - ...
Happy patching.

or....mmdiv, trip, slew/edge,...or..... re the Topo or Triq I tend to use the Topo more due to self clocking, easily changeable fills and more chaotic rhythms

ah yes slew edge receiving one or more lfos can do some beautiful triggering. Time to experiment a bit on triggers tonight. Sending the audio output of ALGODRONE into the MM Divider does some great erratic triggering as well which you can use to trigger a sequencer whose CV outputs can be used to modulate the ALGODRONE parameters and pitch. Abstract bleeping a gogo.

Of the 2 I much prefer the TRIQ64 as you have the control. I do use the topograph too but I feel better for jams etc. rather than composing which is what I do. A lot of what I like to to with the TRIQ64 the Euclid Grid takes to another level but I still use both - the TRIQ64 can be "played" for instance, taking triggers in/out of the live sequence on the front panel which the Eulcid doesn't.

Don't forget a good low-pass gate.

Don't forget a good low-pass gate. Can you elaborate on this?

Low-pass gates are great for making drum sounds, especially congos, bongos, toms and such.

Ah yes, of course, I was just confused since OP asked about triggers. I thought for a second you had some cool hack to make low pass gates generate triggers. My bad.

I’m looking at getting a trigger for drums/ rhythmic stuff and wondered what people’s thoughts were on the Triq164 and Topograf? Thanks🙂 I was pondering this further, and the 2 modules are very different in concept - basics are similar insofar as the Topo can trigger 3 separate sounds, the TRIQ 4, with different "trigger rates" (i.e. not the same pattern or you might as well just use one trigger sequence). The TRIQ you directly choose when it triggers yourself on each of the four sequences, on the Topo you are just the overall guide to what is going to happen; which suits your music better is for you to decide.....

Plenty of very pertinent answers and plenty nerding out on triggers. You got to love this forum.

Also don't forget TRIP which is a trigger/gate processor, MM-DIVIDER and also the LOGIC/OR2x4 modules.
