What’s up people. What do people find to be the resale value of “complete” ae systems that you have built? If one needed to is it possible to gain back let’s say 80% of the cost by selling? Is there a decent market for selling ae systems that have been gently used? I am slightly worried that the new black will affect resale prices of the original grays. And I like to think ahead with most of my synth stuff about resale value. Some of my items (e.g. FS1R) have actually appreciated in value but I’d be happy knowing I could get back most of what I paid a few years down the line if needed. Would be glad to hear your experiences in this.

Think resale value of complete systems, rare stuff aside, is lower in all formats, given the modular approach is so personal. My rule of thumb is the bigger the system, the bigger the loss too.
I recently based pricing on a small AE system at 55% of new cost. For individual modules I usually look around 75% of new.
I suppose what I'm saying is there is more to be made from parting out systems, but ultimately it"s a longer and more time intensive job.

Oh, and resale value is dependant on the market at the time - used AE doesn't have a particularly high resale right now but that might change.

Yeah, I've sold my used modules at half price here on the forums. Even then they might not sell.

That surprises me that the resale isn't high or that the market isn't there for used Ae. Especially in the early days when the turn around for build and delivery was 3 months, 7 for people living in the outskirts of existence.
If I knew there was a used market at the beginning I would have gone there. Maybe offering the system to overseas not just local, adds to the cost but might get the sale.
Is there a life expectancy for modules that would deter a used sale? eg 2 thousand power ons etc.

It depends on the module (like, a Cirrus would get you closer to original price than, say, a 2VCA) and on where you and the buyer live. If you're in the US and have pretty much anything, I've been able to swap or sell stuff without TOO huge a loss just because it's faster than waiting a couple of months for stuff from Germany. But if you're somewhere you can more easily mail-order the modules, don't expect as much.

This is totally unrelated but I heard the next AFX album will use AE extensively.
