As mentioned before I got a new toy for Christmas so I spent the last days introducing the new member to my AE modular, and I must say it feels a bit like introducing a brand new puppy to an old grumpy cat. Cat is not impressed but eventually they found eachother and oh my do they play nice together. Some like it blue ( keurslagerkurt ) I like it black. Without further ado, my first jAEmuary featuring the trust AE modular alongside the 1010music blackbox pushing out some 2-step rhythm.
The blackbox does the drums + a vinyl crackle loop, and sets the tempo via its clock output, stopping/starting/syncing both SEQ8s (running in random mode) on the AE to add some extra polymeter kicks, bleeps, and bloops. Algodrone, Sloth and Cirrus do some scraping the way I like it.
The audio of blackbox goes into the AE modular and is mixed in via a S&H triggered at audio rate to add some bit reduction to the squeaky clean drums. Everything goes into MULTI-FX to tie everything together straight into the ZOOM recorder. The result has, to my old ears at least, a distinct Meat Beat Manifesto vibe. Enjoy.

Very interested to see your journey with the blackbox pt3r seems an awesome little machine. also This is my Day7 Was struggling to evolve from the last patch, prefer starting from scratch rather than this method I think. Sped everything up and added a phaser and Algodrone. cheers

Very interested to see your journey with the blackbox pt3r seems an awesome little machine. The machine is more awesome than its forum , it plays extremely well with modular, as it can record cv modulations and play those back into the AE, which basically allows you to free up modulation sources in your patch and transfer them to the blackbox, and it can be used as a live looper if you connect a midi controller to it. The gabber season is upon us, I was waiting for some deep nasty 909 kicks. This sounds like a Thunderdome rave having a collective mental breakdown. Which is not necessarily a bad thing

thanks pt3r probably signifies what I was having while creating the patch I will remember to not go onto that forum when I eventually get one. cool that you can record cv mod. The live looping, will be interesting how you use that with your scrapings.

For this one I kept the drums, slowed the clock and used the Stomp I/O. I needed a better camera module at the start too.

not getting as much time for music as i hoped so far this month, but:
ms20 for sine waves, sequenced by norns, via Cirrus being modulated by a chaotic combination of CVs from RBSS and Kurt's great divide. As usual, by the time i'd finished patching I had no real idea what i'd done

I'm exploring an idea with the 3VCSWITCH. This is the second try. I'll keep working on this a bit I think.

dizzeesatchel "As usual, by the time I'd finished patching I had no real idea what I'd done" my favourite quote and most relevant to me at the moment. pt3r cheers for the amok tapes recommend. Surprisingly I'm liking it a lot ..... . Kommando Kompilation is where I'm sitting at the moment. Tot Fragmented was good too.

I liked that atmospheric dub quite a bit, the kick could benefit from side-chaining to let it cut more through, if you have a couple of free VCA's.

I like it very much. The sound it has, and the structure is also well managed.

Ahh the 1010music forum.. I was at times suprised to read the sometimes passive aggressive posts by ppl from the company itself.. Not that it was THAT bad, but bad enough to be extra thankful for this forum. I understand that it can be frustrating if you feel like people skip your manual and just instantly ask things on the forum or say that there machine is broken but, more often people DO read the manual and STILL don't understand it because you can't expect anyone to be on the same page mentally all the time (I sure was still confused about some options for a long time, and still am sometimes). Thing is, if you can't stand a lot of people asking questions, even asking super basic ones, you should NOT moderate a forum cause thats like the whole point of it. Better hire someone with an abundance of patience to do it for you Anyway, seeing TONS of fantastic AE jams here, really need to hop on this before the half of the month. Have had a lot of fun focussing on my Digitakt skills the last two weeks (since I upgraded it with a battery it really is the ultimate couch-machine), but after all these great jams my modular fingers are tingling...

I understand the frustration of de product developers to see that people don't read their manual but I also understand that the manuals are not very beginner friendly and quite hermetic. Top this of with a forum filled with people asking non-stop for upgrades and extra functions and no other real interaction between forum members and you understand why I only visit it to get firmware upgrades. There is this thread where people post tracks made with the blackbox, an endless thread that goes on an on and everybody want people to listen to their tracks but nobody seems to even listen to other people's tracks or leave a comment. Pretty weird atmosphere.

I played around a bit today. It's very ad-hoc, not very inspired I guess, but it's something. Very nice. Like early BEF.

Pretty weird atmosphere. true.. 1010 is a bit topsy turvy... in the latest Bluebox firmware they completely ditched all the advanced editing pages of the rather splendid reverb after it being there for the whole 1st year. when challenged ( mostly politely) on it they claim “user request” despite there being little evidence of that on the forum and about 11 pages of people asking for it back!! it seems a few vocal people who can’t be bothered to read a manual or learn anything deeply is enough to curtail everyone else’s fun?? i bought the Bluebox when it came out on the strength of all the amazing ( and continuing ) development of the Blackbox but in this case the going is slow and sometimes very counter productive!! i can only presume sales of the Bluebox haven’t been as inspiring for them as the Blackbox. oddly i haven’t yet used it nearly as much as i thought i would , though i’m sure it’s time will come soon. The Cirrus example here at AE is the total opposite.. so great to see collaboration and cooperation with no thought of profit working like that. brings a tiny tear to me eye

Honestly when you see the feature requests of some of the users then you can't help but wonder, did you read the manual before you bought the machine to have an idea on what the product is supposed to do and what it can do for you? Once you acquire the product read the manual and see what you can do with your new toy before crying for a new 'feature' that can already be executed in the incarnation the product is in now.
