Reading the post AE Rack 2 vs Behringer System 100 bundle vs VCV Rack got me thinking can we emulate a AE Modular starter 2 in VCV Rack ?
If it's already been done I would love to see what equivalent VCV modules you have used.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can't really emulate the AEM in VCV as AEM has its own sound.
You can however to something similare but you won't have the same result

I guess you could use your favourite modules from vcv and set it out like the starter rack. The functionality and sound would differ. You never know there may be someone out there writing the code for them now. The focus would still be eurorack I imagine.

If it's already been done I would love to see what equivalent VCV modules you have used. Any ideas would be appreciated. This should be doable with almost only default VCV modules. This is what's in the AE Starter 2: 3x VCO (Oscillator) 1x Noise 2x LFO (Low frequency oscillator) 1x Filter Wasp 1x Filter SV 2x Envelope (Attack/Decay) 2x VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) 1x 8 step sequencer 1x 4 channel mixer 2x S&H (Sample & Hold) 1x Delay 2x Attenuator 2x Logic (NAND, AND, XOR) Just find similar modules in VCV and you got a good start. It won't sound the same and you are missing out on the physicality of patching with cables and turning knobs. But it's a great way to start learning about modular synthesis!

I can't speak for VCV rack, but i've had some experience with the Ipad adaptation. Now that i own starter rack 2, i find that of course it has its own sound that you can't emulate on VCV/Mirack. There are also stuff that you can do on starter rack 2 that you can't on the software modules, and vice versa. But overall i would say that trying out a software emulation gave me a general sense of what i could do with the starter rack.

Just listening to some of the past performances and came to a track from cadenza that was made on VCV and built around the starter rack 2. Unfortunately for some reason the link didn't work for me but had a good reception. There is a picture of the VCV rack used too! thread link below forum.aemodular.com/thread/458/ae-modular

stora admin maydonpoliris Would an AEM reskin (faceplate SVGs, I/O channels) of basic VCV modules be valuable? It would be some work, especially when the I/O differs, but it doesn't seem difficult.

I think so, there is always going to be a market for softsynth modular, especially copies of original hardware. Even if sound would differ. It could even help push those over to the hardware versions as vcv is a gateway. I stopped using vcv when I discovered Ae so maybe it could bridge the gap quicker/easier.
