A couple of recent threads, forum.aemodular.com/thread/1386/raegistaer-aequipment-ownaership-show-stuff and forum.aemodular.com/thread/1510/ really got me pondering about help for beginners in particular planning an AE system. I originally began my AE life with the Starter 1; I then bought a couple of modules to assist with using it with my Korg MS20 as an "expander" once I knew everything was OK.
Life got more complicated when I decided it was going to be its own beastie, and be the centre part of a mini studio with the MS20, Neutron and Minibrute. Also Robert keeps making new modules I really want!
The point of this thread is considering what modules ideally need to be close, even next to, each other. It may even affect purchasing. Examples:-
I like to put a LFO near to VCOs etc. as I like vibrato, but then you need a 2CV/MIX or similar for attenuation. That is one grouping of 3 (or more) modules. I have 1 section where my trigger manipulators (e.g. Logic, 3CV switch) are together, near the SEQ16, beat dividers etc. but haven't decided what ones make the best pairings/ groups yet. In a similar vein, my 4I/O has LFO, ENV and Lo-Fi delay modules by it as that's what I use most to expand the external synths. These are not big enough groups to require a whole rack (the KISS/go for it thread) and, occasionally it works by being above or below its partner, rather than side by side (do this with ENV and filter modules for instance).
I'm pondering whether to add a section to the "getting started" area of the Wiki....
I nearly put this in the KISS/go for it thread but not quite the same thing, your thoughts?...
