In my opinion the starter kit gives you all you need to get started. But you might want to add a reverb effect. Either with the Multi FX module or outboard with a pedal. Some mixers also have reverb built in. A looper pedal would offer you the option to layer different sounds which might be a great way to get much out of the small system.

Welcome! 😄
I have been making a lot of ambient with just the Starter Rack 2, but I think like admin says, a good fx unit like the MultiFX could do Wonders. I also really love the Solina module if you like thick soundscapes/drones.
First thing I bought after the starter rack was the Wonkystuff RBSS (great for adding some modulation, semi-random, generative,.. stuff), an extra 2env module and An extra filter (MS20)

The MultiFX is a blast for ambient if you want to add reverb. or any reverb pedal you may want.
As said, th starter rack is a really good start and you can do a lot with it. You may want to add the SEQ16 or SEQ8 if you want to give a bit of movement to your ambient, but it's up to your taste. The SOLINA is also a very good option, but my preference will go with the WAVETABLES, it's an absolute blast.

The big thing is, there's no "black and white" answer to this question - it's very much personal preference!
I love the Spring Reverb for ambient patches, the tone it gives sounds amazing. There's also the MultiFX, as others have said, which is really versatile. Finally, the Solina can make great pad textures - but the big thing is that it's up to you!

Hello guys, with which modules can I start a little nice standalone ambient session? Starterkit 2 and which additional modules do I need? Many thanks and greets rummelfigge I would at least add a multi fx module and you're golden. For further (sonic) possibilities I would suggest an algodrone or a grains module depending on your budget. This will get you very far. And at least 2 extra packs of patch cables .

To be on the safe side count 1.5 pack per (16 module) row. Cables and vca's you never can have enough of them. Unless you only have vca's, in that case I would at least add some envelopes, and cables.

If you are looking for smooth sounds, the MS20 for it's sine wave at resonance is a must have imo!

In all fairness; the best modules are the modules you have, not the ones you lust after, those can't make any sound for you. I'm pretty sure that the smaller your setup the more inventive you have to be with your patching, which can be an excellent creativity booster. Something important which, imho, does not get pointed out enough is to have a possibility to record your sounds at hand, when you're patching; nothing is more frustrating than having a superb patch going and nothing to record that exact moment. Happy sonic accidents are very hard to recreate.
